Ok, everything was fun, but being serious … answering your question, there has been a lot of events this year …

TCG:

  • New language: Latin American Spanish: Since “Journey Together”, TPCi applied a split regarding Spanish cards: Spain Spanish and Latin American Spanish. Most likely as a consequence of the complaints of Latam Spanish community regarding Spain Spanish phrases and idioms of main PokĂ©mon games that ruined their gameplay experience.

Controversies:

  • Alpha Prototype cards: Extensive researches made by some people in this forum (such as the one made by pfm and the tool made by Mika) concluded that most of the Alpha Prototype cards that are circulating are counterfaints. Scam involving a high amount of money.
  • Prismatic Evolutions chaos: The release of “Prismatic Evolutions” was ruined by scalpers who quickly made sealed products run out of stock.
  • S-Chinese Mew ex 003/SV-P: In 2025, PokĂ©mon released a Mew ex card for Mainland China. This Mew card has an artwork that is exclusive to S-Chinese and only 1510 units of this card were distributed. This made price of the card skyrocket. Also, counterfeits that looks identical to the legit card started to circulate in the market.
  • Japanese McDonald’s 2025: McDonald’s Japan released a campaign with PokĂ©mon where they were going to distribute a booster that contained a Pikachu promo card + 1 random card out of the 5 possible cards. Campaign was ruined by scalpers (again) and everything sold out in a very short time. It was reported that absurd amounts of food were wasted as a consequence of this campaign. This made McDonald’s to apply restrictions for future campaigns.
  • 1st Edition Fossil Kabuto manipulation: A Twitter user nicknamed “KabutoKing” went viral recently for his unusual goal: collecting every 1st Edition :fossil: Kabuto :united_states: of the world. This made the price of this variant skyrocket to unthinkable levels … :skull:
