noooo
shouldnt be allowed. dang

it’s possible this turns out well and collectors gives them the necessary personal to boost the customer experience, turnaround times, and technology. But judging by what happened to sgc my inclination is that they try to burry them

This is big! I hope they treat this partnership like they do SGC, meaning BGS stays the same for the most part.

Good move overall imo!

edit: looks like that is case:

Collectors will look to enhance Beckett’s offering while preserving the ability for hobbyists to choose what is best for every unique item in their collection.

Orders at PSA and Beckett will continue to be processed normally. There will be no change in pricing as a part of this acquisition.

Are there no monopoly rulings on this kind of acquisition?

i dont think this market is catching the eyes of regulators. It’s just card grading. Beckett has too low of market share and cgc is growing too fast to call this move monopolistic

if they bid to buy cgc then yes that would be a monopoly. The FTC does have the authority to look at this but dont expect anything

Exactly my thoughts - PSA and Beckett are competitors. This acquisition brings two behemoths under one roof and kills competition… which seems to be a recurring theme in corporate America these days.

2 behemoths in name only. psa is the only real behemoth here
when psa grades almost 2 million cards per month and beckett grades 50k.. basically in an average business day psa grades as many cards as beckett grades in 2 months

A monopoly is considered as more than 50% of the market. So what does it mean if a 75% market share company acquires a 3% market share company?

As we all know, killing competition has historically been nothing but net positives for consumers

Fair, I wasn’t aware of just how large the disparity was between the two.

Still, if Beckett’s destiny is to be acquired then I think it’d be healthier for a different company like CGC to acquire them and build something that can compete on PSA’s level.

Either way, this doesn’t really affect me since I don’t grade any of my collectibles. I’m just tired of seeing big companies swallow smaller companies without any pushback.

They acquired SGC and nothing changed for the consumer. If anything, they’re able to collaborate on knowledge with certain era sports cards and known counterfeits by combining resources/experts/databases.

What does this specific announcement mean for submission volumes? Can vote for 3 outcomes, one for each grading company.

  • PSA volume up
  • PSA volume down
  • Beckett volume up
  • Beckett volume down
  • CGC volume up
  • CGC volume down

Probably does not effect us with pokemon much but other cards definitely

Don’t know much about how collectors influenced sgc but does that mean BGS’ prices are going to change to how psa has their pricing model nvm just read the one line saying they won’t change pricing.

Does this mean PSA will be bringing out their own Black label?

Does collectors now have to disclose the Beckett hack that happened a few weeks back?

no, see these are the numbers today and thats part of the point

Go back to February 2024 and look at SGC’s numbers, then take into account how much the overall market grew since then. and you can clearly see the move was designed just to eliminate the competition
back in 2023, SGC held 9% of the overall market and 15% of the sports market. Then they got acquired in early 2024… and now looking at those numbers you can clearly see the result of that acquisition
IF SGC was still independent and still had 9% of the overall market they would of graded 200k cards last month, compared to the sad 35k you see here

In 2023, SGC graded almost as many cards as CGC and nobody was really using them for TCG. They were really a force in the sports market
Beckett is now finally in a position to get their act together after multiple rounds of investments and they have actually been growing again. But nope! psa swoops right in and makes sure this cant happen.
you dont want to wait 4+ months for your bulk to get graded? too bad we are eliminating your options. you will take what we give you and you will be happy

Independent of opinions on any grading company, less competition is not a good thing.

I also chuckle a bit at there being “no changes” as a result of this. As of December 15, 2025, sure, there are none, but that won’t be the case long term. Daddy Nat gets more levers to pull to maximize profits, and fewer external pressures. There will be changes whenever the wind blows.

Do I have to root for TAG now? Ugh.
