Has anyone ever laid eyes on this card? If you’ve ever seen this card, have any information about it, have a lead on where I might find one, or have conclusive proof that it exists – I would be very eager to learn more.
This is the result when I used google translate: sticker coloring pokemon. It’s not as good as someone who can actually read korean but it’s close
(also it’s written on the book in english)
This is just pure speculation so you could be on the nose but also maybe it comes from a completely different source then a coloring book or a different coloring book
Maybe it was a promo that was intended to be released but was scrapped for whatever reason, with a few copies getting out somehow. This might explain the extreme rarity.
In case someone looked it up on Bulbapedia and was going to ping me for it (and yes, someone already did lol ): all information regarding this card came from the official card database:
And for Japanese and Korean promos, TPC and KR always specify their sources on the card entry pages, which for this card says:
However as we have experiencedbefore, finding a card on the official site doesn’t mean it was officially released… so I wouldn’t be able to provide further help here. (One thing you might want to try is to call officials directly and ask them what’s with the card entry - I tried it with TPC when investigating on some other cards but they never responded, perhaps PK would be more responsive.)
Thank you very much for the details, it’s helpful to see those other threads about unreleased promos. The theory posed by @bbobrob is an interesting one, that maybe the card was not officially released. A Korean collector I spoke to seemed to think they were officially released but the print run was very limited. However I think more information is certainly needed.
I fired off an email to Pokemon Korea at your suggestion @rabby250 . Will update you all if they respond! In the meantime, I’ll update this thread if I find any other information
Update: I received a fascinating response from the publishing company behind the coloring books.
Google Translated:
There are no cards for all three volumes.
The logo on the card uses the Pokemon character, so the Pokemon logo is included.
The cards and the book are not related.
We only made the book, and the cards were made by another company.
We only sell books.
A card refers to a piece of paper containing a product code provided by Pokemon Headquarters.
I hope all your questions are now answered.
thank you
They were very gracious with responding to my inquiries. I do think they were a little tired of my persistence at the end there
Previously, it was unclear whether the cards may have been distributed inside of the books at some earlier print date. Now I think we can say that was never the case.
I’m a bit puzzled over this response though, given that the books and the card share a logo. I think this leaves three theories:
The card was distributed separately to the books. Either it was redeemed as a bonus after buying the book, or there was some kind of event pop-up where the card was distributed, or some stores handed it out when you purchased a book.
Distribution for the cards was actually not related to the books at all, and the co-branding was intended to promote awareness of the books
The card was intended to be released and they scrapped it, with a few getting out somehow
Hoping that Pokemon Korea gets back to me with more answers.
More evidence that the card was distributed: I found this image shared on a Korean message board in 2023. The context was in a “want to buy” post so they didn’t necessarily have a copy themselves. It’s the only other actual photo of the card I’ve seen besides the one on Pokumon, and it’s sealed which is interesting. The search continues.
I asked a Korean contact to inquire for me, but not sure if they’ll be able to. You need an account on the forum with a certain amount of reputation before you can message people there. And my accounts keep getting flagged before I can build up enough credit, maybe because I registered with a non-Korean phone number? It’s certainly a bit challenging to investigate as a non-Korean
Reading this thread I feel your pain trying to track down Korean promos… I to am after a Korean promo but from xy I’m yet to actually see a copy in a picture just the image in pokumon….
This is the card on the official Pokemon Korea website:
I think #1 is the most likely theory for the distribution of this card. I have some other Korean promos for watching movies in theaters like a recent Mew ex card from January. It’s likely it was a limited time event. It doesn’t seem like the book was ever meant to contain the card, and that email did sound like they were a bit tired of answering questions
I can’t seem to find any for sale online unfortunately. You can occasionally check https://globalbunjang.com/ where people resell used goods. You’ll need a Korean person to buy for you though if you find it. I ask my friends to buy for me occasionally as I don’t live in Korea.
There’s a Facebook group called Pokemon TCG Korea. I don’t have Facebook so I’m not sure how groups and forums work on it. Can’t hurt to put the word out there.
