Korean coloring book stamped Galarian Slowpoke promo 121/S-P?

Small update on the search. No, I still don’t have the card. Yes, I still have hope!

A friend on Discord found photo evidence of a different card from the same promo set distributed along with a book. Note this photo is of a different book that came with a different card, what’s interesting here is the distribution method. This visual matches how Pokemon Korea described the distribution of 121/S-P to me in their email. It also explains why the book publisher wouldn’t know about the card, because it’s separate from the book printing itself.

So in addition to the card itself I’m also looking for sealed coloring books that are packaged in the same way (except it’s a different book, and with the Slowpoke inside instead of this Rayquaza promo):

Hi all, friend on Discord here! Small update #2:

The other day, I was traversing a Naver Cafe board searching for our elusive card, and found a post of somebody’s ongoing Korean S-P promo card collection binder. They made two posts, one with the binder with cards through 142/S-P, and the other, 204/S-P. And both posts contained the following image…

Unfortunately, with the help of our Korean friend, we already tried messaging the person who posted, and they ghosted him :sob:

The plot thickens..! :stuck_out_tongue:

Omg… this is actually crazy I’ve been lurking this thread and I honestly thought this card never got released but this is crazy!!!

It’s definitely real. We’ve crossed into Ahab territory

I am actually super pumped for you @slowqueen. I always have considered to be this as an enigma but was rooting for you to somehow find this someday. I feel super happy that the barrier of whether the card exists or not has been broken. So although rare, I am confident that you will manage to get your hands on it someday.

Looking forward to that update!

Cheers!

@slowqueen real recognize real, this is a compelling “unfindable” story and hopefully there’s concrete progress soon!

These are the types of posts that I live for!

On other news, this was an insta save for later use  but stoked for you for encouraging news!

Hi, I saw this today and thought I’d join you on the find. I like finding items like these and have done so many many times, especially in Korea. Feel free to correct me on any of the points below.

Some info I gathered (likely known by you but just to confirm).

Re the packaging, some bookstores packed the book like this. This specific one is from a 책발전소광교, and shows that bookstores will have some discretion on how to pack this. In order to get Pokemon to print a specific promo card for you, this would to be a bigger chain I believe, like Kyobo.

Also, you mentioned this possibly being released pre-Covid but Naver finds no mentions of this book prior to 2021 as it was released in March 2021.

I then found a couple packaged in cellophane with a sticker on it.

The sticker is only found on Vol 1 and Vol 2. I did not find it on any Vol.3 book.

. This leads to the Adventure Event. Collect points using the code inside and redeem in-game items for SWSH.

However, the official Pokemon video for the event does NOT list these colouring books as the source of the code. Why? Maybe they were added later and were originally supposed to come with the promo.

In April, photos of the event showing the colouring book started appearing

This event started in April 2021, with the Pokemon videos about the event being released in late March. The books were published on 1 March 2021 at which point some blog posts start showing the books (with the publisher making a post earlier in Feb that year — I saw your comment on that post)

As such, the card may have been limited to this brief period of the book being released with the promo in it, before being scraped and replaced with the point code card.

The problem with this is that the 2nd volume came in June, so why would the Pokemon website list it as the source of the card, if it had been limited to just March 2021?

I also found the Pixel Sticker Book, which also has Vol. 1 and 2 and has had a promo inside, but the promo would be stamped differently. This was released earlier (I believe in 2020).

The same promo in Japan was distributed during the Friendly Shop purchase campaign. The Morpeko promo from the Friendly Shop later made it into the Pixel book Vol. 1, with a different sticker. So here we know that these two promos were all under one event in Japan, but made it in Korea as different promos under different events.

One person’s WTB with this Slowpoke. The person has posted many posts looking specifically for an Unopened one for over 2 years. I think it would be worth asking them where they found this photo, as I could not find the original picture. I will ask the person tomorrow.

Also, besides this person, there aren’t that many people discussing this or looking for the card on Korean internet and forums, and keep in mind that those are Korean collectors with Korean tools at hand.

Random hypothesis:

I was in Korea in that year in September and the covid restrictions were still fairly heavy. This could mean that the card was planned, printed and possibly given to a chain at a certain location, tied to the book and possibly to specifically buying the book (or a set of 2 of them later on). Because it was covid, and especially earlier in the year, the sales could have been were really low in that branch (where they could have tested this promotion event). It not working out with the Adventure Event already planned, they could have tossed the rest away. This could have been either in March 2021, or after summer, when Vol. 2 has been released and the Adventure event ended. The second option is slighly more likely given that the page lists Vol.2 as the source, but the first option would explain the brief timeline and then scraping it for the point card.

I think it would be good to ask a few of the bigger book stores if this were the case and if they have ever distributed this. People always responded really nicely whenever I looked for particular items in Korea (not Pokemon related).

I will continue looking for this tomorrow and will message a few places.

Could you please share a link to this? Thanks!

This person having one would be the best bet to getm ore info. I would like to contact them myself.

I love these posts! Rooting for you @slowqueen

Absolutely incredible research!!!

I then found a couple packaged in cellophane with a sticker on it.

Last night @dylancollectsglaceon found a listing for a sealed book with this sticker, which we deduced to be from some kind of in-game promo release. It’s really useful to see the additional information you dug up.

I have a friend in Korea who will buy this sealed book for me to see what’s inside (for science) but I’m not expecting the card to be inside of this version.

As such, the card may have been limited to this brief period of the book being released with the promo in it, before being scraped and replaced with the point code card.

It makes a lot of sense that the cards would have been included with the book extremely briefly. It begs the question: how to tell whether a copy of the book has the card inside? Was there some kind of special packaging? I have never seen the paper bands photos you shared, those are fascinating.

I have seen that same person’s WTB posts but have never been able to reach out to them, because my Naver account got locked and you need more reputation on the forum anyways (presumably for not being in Korea? unclear). It would be great if you could reach out and see if they learned anything!

That is a great idea! I know you said you’d planned to reach out, but please let me know if there is any work I can do that would be helpful. I’m a bit limited because I don’t speak Korean, but I’ve gotten pretty far with Google Translate before

I will continue looking for this tomorrow and will message a few places.

THANK YOU :star_struck:

I will dm you links to both posts: Last night, @dylancollectsglaceon found another link to a Naver post with the following binder. Another one has been found!

Seconding @slowqueen, absolutely excellent research @goonhoon!!!

Another mini add on: I discovered a couple minutes ago that there is one graded copy in existence! A BRG 8.5.

Time to run through a couple hundred thousand cert numbers? :joy:

I found this video actually unboxing this book. I suppose there’s nothing but the point card inside, since they drew no attention to anything.

I really doubt this would have been included inside as a raw card, as there would be more of these around if that were the case. I find it unlikely that only a, let’s say, dozen of books would have the card inside. The fact that zero posts mention it in connection with the book (all of those mom blogs) and the fact that we know a plastic blister exists suggests to me this was not included inside. The extreme scarcity suggests that this did not make it in all of the copies when the promotion even was launched (if packed on the outside as the Rayquaza) or that they cancelled the event very quickly once launched.

Will try!

I think knowing these exist out in the wild is 70% of the battle, regardless of whether the owners are willing to part with it or not. I believe they could help us with the source and (if relevant) provenance (e.g. the owner having received a test copy etc).

Amazing. That’s one more copy (assuming it’s not the same owner).

ONE MORE FINAL: I need you.

Honestly one of the best threads ever created in E4, following with great anticipation

this kind of feels like when people thought the coelacanth was extinct and then some guy just fished one up in the 1930s. Like @slowqueen is going to stumble upon a set of them

Definitely … This is one of those threads that worth having bookmarked imo … Information about distribution is very useful.

@slowqueen distorted the way I see this artwork so much that now it’s impossible for me not to associate it with her, with 121/S-P :south_korea: and with “Non-Findable cards”

Please find it …

Every time I see a post notification for this thread, my brain tingles with excitement. :brain: :high_voltage:

Congrats on making it this far and finding so much info, if I could only get half the leads you have had for my snorlax would be amazing….
