A little story about user B, our biggest lead.
The other two people who showed a photo of a copy in binders did not respond and did not seem as active, and one seemed to have their account deleted. This is the first time I felt like an actual human owns the card
User B is the author of this photo I shared above,
.
Until this was shared, I had my doubts about the source of the card and whether it was actually released (I believed staff took a few copies pre-distribution before the promo event got scraped).
However, this post, titled 5 Cards that arrived today, including the photo from B, created on 2021.09.24, opens with an amazing line:
Sometime around the end of last month (or the beginning of this month?), I had a few drinks late at night and ended up impulsively buying a set of cards without thinking.
I saw this Slowpoke online and ordered the book haha. I didn’t know the card exists.
I then scroll down and see this photo. We deduce that user B grades cards given how they sleeve them and put them in cardsavers. This is confirmed when I search for user B’s other posts, many of which include graded copies of cards.
As such, we start wondering whether the one graded copy with BRG, that we are yet to find the cert of, belongs to this person. The idea of this was to get a good scan of the card, as well as maybe also find who the owner is (maybe they know a lot about the card and the way it was distributed).
We message user B on the forum but unfortunately, we get no response. Their last post was made 8 November 2023. Their last post reads:
Lately, I’ve lost a lot of interest in collecting Pokemon Cards. As such, I ended up selling off a bunch of them.
The user then has no further activity on the forum and we wonder if they still have the card. I try to look around but gave up to instead try and find the card elsewhere.
I go to sleep (European timezone) whereas @slowqueen and @dylxxn continue their search in the US.
I wake up and see that @slowqueen found an user with the same name on Ruliweb, a forum focused on gaming, anime, comicbooks and so on. I have an account on Ruliweb but it did not occur to me to even try look there. As a matter of fact, I used this forum to look for an unfidable comic book from 2003 (no luck) about a year ago.
@dylxxn then checks the user’s posts, seeing slowpoke figurines and graded cards. Surely this is the same person?
Their post, that @dylxxn found, explains a bit about their involvement in Pokemon (as this is not a Pokemon forum):
Recently, I started giving some of my cards to children. I hardly have any left. Nonetheless, here are some cards that have been tucked away on my bookshelf.
During Covid, I heard a thing or two about Pokemon and how hobby is suddenly getting so big. I used to buy a pack or two back in the day and so I ordered a box of foreign cards. A Pikachu Vmax came out of the box. I asked on a forum about the card and what it is, and almost got bullied [for not knowing].
I bought a lot of suppliers, including card savers, as other’s told me to. Before the cardsavers arrived, I used to store my cards in books. Thinking back, that sounds like a dangerous thing to do.
The user then shares some more card photos, including a promo Pikachu they graded
Right now, I am not buying Pokemon anymore. It became difficult to buy cards so I stopped. Apparently it’s much better now but it’s hard to go back once you fully stop.
We are fairly sure now that all this suggests this is the same user as User B on the Pokemon Forum. I refer to this person as user B too.
At the same time, we (namely @dylxxn and @cryingatnight) are letting the script run for hours and hours in order to scrape the BRG grading cert numbers and find a match for the Galarian Slowpoke promo.
Then comes in @slowqueen, looks at the cert of a Promo Pikachu that user B had, subtracts 1 from the last digit. Enters that into the BRG website and boom, here we go. How crazy?

Here is a photo of the Galarian Slowpoke that was graded. We were hoping for better scans (BRG does really nice scans nowadays) but at this time they were still resorting to photos).
I am then asked to message the user there. I cannot login into my account, as the verification code never comes, and so I use my wife’s one. I then see the following captcha:
Amazing coincidence. After all, all this is because of this post on E4.
Now I sent the message and we wait. User B’s last post was about an hour ago and he is very very well active on the forum.
