However, in my unceasing pursuit of organizational perfection, my own collection spreadsheets have since evolved beyond that form. Here’s a breakdown of my current Yuka Morii spreadsheet;
Tracks the number of unique illustrations, total cards, cards collected, and cards remaining. The progress bar provides a visual representation of collection progress. Numbers and progress bar both update automatically.
Cards are grouped by their distribution method and ordered chronologically according to the associated dates. Headers are color-coded to indicate the type of distribution - blue for standard English expansion sets; red for English supplemental products and promotional distributions; and orange for any Japan-exclusive releases. Checking off a card automatically formats the line to clearly distinguish collected and remaining cards.
As for my 2024 collection goals…
Other than keeping up with new releases relevant to my illustrator collections, I must unfortunately halt my Pokémon spending for the time being - likely through most of 2024. I need to get serious about my financial security, and start taking long overdue steps toward my proper independence. It’s unfortunate, it’s not fun, but that’s life. Thus my collection goal for 2024 is to gain the financial security, responsibility, and independence required to eventually be able and comfortable to spend some money on filling in those gaps in my collection again.
My goals are somewhat loose, as my time spent on Pokemon collecting ebbs and flows (mostly because I’m switching between a lot of things I want to do with my limited time), so I don’t pay too much attention to the pace at which I’m moving forward at. I think some reasonable things I’d like to do in 2024 are:
-Complete English + Japanese Hoppip/Skiploom/Jumpluff species collection. I’m pretty much done with Japanese (missing one card, as far as I’m aware), and have mostly non-holos and reverses to fill out for English, which, admittedly, can probably be knocked out pretty fast with some dedicated time on TCGPlayer.
-I’m at roughly 50% completion on my reverse holo Expedition set. With a lot of rares left to acquire, I hope to reach maybe 75% completion by end of 2024?
-I’d like to attempt trading at some point (whether online or in person). I sometimes pick up random cards on Ebay if I can find/win them for below market price with the intention of building up a trade binder. I don’t mind having them sit around, as I could always sell them, but I like the idea of trading much more (in addition to the other benefit of avoiding a ~18% value loss due to selling fees).
-Related to above: if I don’t start trading, I think starting to sell some of these cards to actualize some of the profit would be good. I have a hard time selling things because I’m somewhat a hoarder and because the time-spent-to-money-gained ratio is not worth it compared to some other things I could be doing. The plus side of selling, though, is that I kind of like the whole process of acquiring, listing, packaging, etc.

Feels like I didnt make much progress on the 2023 goals but 2024 will be another year of trying to be more focused. I did manage to complete the trainer kit boxes by finding a variant of ex Trainer Kit 2.
Try to finish my deck box collection by finding an international Team Aqua deck, all 3 Kalos Starter Collections, and a Creatures Deck box.
Try upgrading my remaining 29 unsealed decks to sealed versions so that I can have a complete sealed theme deck collection with all known box variants.
Try to sell everything that is not bringing me direct happiness in my collection, preferably not through a firesale, and only keep what I actually really enjoy or has special meaning.
And the biggest goal is to finish all the tcg related projects that I have in the works. I should be able to post my 2023 E4 art competition piece before the next competition
Yes! In the very beginning (just trying to get a few sales and build up feedback), I used to embroider outlines of pokemon to send with my orders. That obviously took way too much time, so I moved on to freebies. Now, I just send the card E4 packages get sent with care though!
Sure! I’d be happy to try to trade with you sometime. When I put together a trade binder, I can reach out, and we can see if we’ll find anything we like!
Ah I feel you on that one. I’ve wanted the FA Mario as well and its crazy how high the price is now. I’ve been putting it off and it’s always frustrating as it keeps on climbing. But you never know hopefully one day we will get it. As for me, I already put a PSA 10 out of my mind and would be more than happy with a lower grade copy.
It’s funny, for the first time I don’t really think I really have many goals I feel strongly about or am actively working towards. I feel like my collection is in a really good place. But if I had to make some goals about things I’d like or am casually watching out for:

Frame my Himeno Signatures

Get the final odds and ends of Gyarados-featured postcards (every year I find a new one to join the growing list)

Actually it is my 2023 wish, but the missing cards are so hard to find, since no one grades them… photo under, appreciate all the help or people that might have one of those. Would buy also in a PSA 10 if the price is right For every trace and help I will be very, very grateful
My main collection goal for 2023 was to complete my VS Series binder, which I did not achieve, however I came a lot closer and don’t have that many cards missing. I will be in Japan again next spring and try to get some of the big hitters that I am still missing there and complete the rest back home. I will also be on the lookout for Jungle and Fossil holos, as I want to have at least them complete and they would go well along next to my Base Set.
This year I also set the goal to collect every mainline game from Gens I to IV (GB/GBA era games cart only, DS era games CIB), which I am just three shy of completing. I hope to get the missing ones by the end of 2023 but if not it will of course be a goal for the first months of 2024. In Japan, I also plan to get some Japanese games.
I also want to decide whether I focus more on the game collecting side or the card collecting side of the hobby. But as I know myself I will probably jump between both sides all the time.
