The Giant Grade Estimate Thread

Thank you SMwizard

Had to be done!

I’m surprised Scott didn’t start charging $1 for every post in here

Hey, first time posting. I have a 1st Ed Team Rocket Dark Blastoise and want to ask what this might grade. The whitening on the of picture 3 seems to be from bad cutting. There’s a scratch to the left of the his right water cannon. Thanks for the help.

@corinn, that has to be at least a 9 I would think. Looks like a small factory line in the top left of the holo? Hard to tell, but that would prevent a 10 as well. I have 10s with that similar type of top edge cut and they weren’t docked for it on the grade but they have flawless holo surfaces as well and no other real issues.

Hey, now posting in correct thread .

Can this get a 7 or 8? The holo is riddled with micro scratches

Thank you for your evaluation, I’ll take a closer look hopefully won’t find any other flaws. I am very happy if it got an 8 or better. Had this in my collection for 20+ years.

Hi! Looking to add Gyarados yo my collection, what you think of this one? Seems super clean, holo surface and back surface perfect, no dents or scratches, only noticeable thing is a very small horizontal line on the back.(last picture taken with a macro objective 50x augmented )

Can this be a PSA 8? (Minimum I would consider buying) thank you!

Yeah definitely possible it could be an 8 but the majority of my 9s look exactly like this. Well centered, full gloss, nice corners, minor edge wear if any, but usually a print line or minor scratch on the holo is the main thing that made them 9s. It really can depend of course, I have also seen 9s that have no print lines/surface flaws to speak of but then they’ll have worse centering or damage on the back instead that brings them down to a 9. So a variety of reasons to bring the grade down, so 8-9 range seems fair to me on this one.

@pipleshh , when you say micro scratches, do you mean like horizontal/vertical print lines or actual legit scratches/wear? The Neo Genesis Lugia is notorious for print line/scratches that make the vast majority of them lower grades even out of the pack. Depending on the severity, it could be a 7 or 8. Maybe share a picture showing the scratches more clearly under better lighting/angle if you can.

These scratches its totally littered with them i feel like i’d be lucky with a 7 (will still prob grade for the double swirl and nostalgia lol)

@pipleshh, here’s my copy that got an 8. This makes it look worse than it is as I have to really tilt the card to find it all, but does give you some idea. If you think yours is worse, than it could be a 6 or 7. Still a nice card either way, one of the best ones you can have in your collection.

Cool thanks mine feels worse just because theres so many mini scratches but this gives me hope for a 7!

What grade would this get? Bottom left looks super scratched

What subgrades you think this would get at BGS?

Are these cards you own, or cards you’re looking to buy?

Cards I own but that i’ve either recently bought or cracked out of slabs. Have been buying up ā€œcheapā€ cards go grade when middlemen open up again here

9.5 Centering
9.5 Edges
10 Surface
10 Corners

Would be my guess.

Any thoughts on this one please? :upside_down_face:

@franmotard, I would think a PSA 8 seems reasonable given the front centering. It’s possible that the holo has flaws that can’t be seen in the pics as well. The roller line on the back counts as a surface flaw I would think.

Thank you! I’m debating on whether buying it or not, the seller made me a pretty fair price and I could grade it with other cards I have in one of those PSA members cheap events. The card is really good overall, the only thing noticeable is that roller line on the back, I think a 9 is impossible with that, but an 8 seems reasonable. Any more opinions on this?
