Hi all - I just got this beauty in the mail today, and am considering getting it graded, I feel like this shiny Charizard will have its day in the sun at some point. (Curious to hear discussions on that, is it already near a peak, with PSA10’s going for a couple thousand?) However, the condition is slightly worse than I was expecting (see photo set here: imgur.com/a/BtxI8QB ). The front looks mostly good to me, but there’s clear whitening on the back.
I know it’s hard to tell from photos, but could this potentially get a 7-8, or is it in the 6 territory? I don’t have a lot of experience grading cards, so looking for an estimate from those who know more. I’d send it in if it has a chance at an 8, but wouldn’t if it feels like a 6. Thanks!
@itsmew , you’re about to get alot of requests to show the back in this thread, so please go ahead and include a photo of the back of the card (: I know your Imgur link has everything, but teasers are always good too for a quick review.
From what I’ve heard, it is difficult to grade this particular series of cards. I have a Blastoise that I bought when the set was first released, and I threw it into storage. It was surprisingly off-centered (not OC worthy, just not centered).
I don’t see it getting an 8 with that back edge wear. 6/7 range from the pictures. Can’t tell if the warping of the card is abnormal. If the card is bent or water damaged would be worse (obvi)
Thanks everyone! Yea, I think I’ll keep it ungraded for now then, a 6 wouldn’t be worth it to me (and the value of 7 is pretty sporadic too).
@jonandek, the warping seems normal to me and should be able to be flattened. I don’t see any evidence that it’s something worse.
@thatblastoiseguy, embedded the back of the card, thanks! I’ve heard the same thing about these shiny secret rares as well. The card itself feels odd, with the nicely textured front but a fairly thin back that doesn’t match the thickness of the front. And that gold boarder is prone to easy scratches, probably.
