I can’t get enough of Oku’s creations. Walk me through the frosted hills where Glalie glide. Dive me to the depths of sunken ships with Golisopod. Hide me inside the twisted forests where Kingambit and Orbeetle roam.

That’s beautiful and very cute!
Also, I really like the darker palette (almost black) of some Pokemon, like snorlax and drifblim.

What I love about gastly is that it’s not a defined form. It can be anomolous, cartoonish, shadowy, even just the eyes and teeth are symbolic. Such a diverse mon.

That’s so true! For example looking at Haunter, my favorite depiction is probably from Kusube. It doesn’t resemble the classic anime or sugimori design at all, but those gaseous bodies are so versatile.

This is that Kusube haunter book?
 So fun!

I need that book. Please don’t tell me it’s mega expensive or rare lol

This might be common knowledge, but I just noticed for the first time while playing TCG Pocket that the Forbidden Light Cubone has a cloud shaped like Marowak in the sky! I already love sowsow illustrations, but never noticed the details on this one - thought I’d share in case I wasn’t the only one haha.

I don’t think the Haunter book was released in English, so only the Japanese one exists, as far as I know.

It may take a little bit of dedicated searching, but it seems to pop up for $30-50 on Mercari Japan, with a couple of the ~$30 recent sales being 9 days ago and 1 month ago.

You may be able to find one cheaper with patience and other keywords.

Thanks. I’ve never used Mercari before so don’t know about that.

Ebay only turned up a single copy which would have been £90+ with shipping which was a bit rich for me (but expected with ebay prices being higher).

Also some chancer trying to sell Haunter and Gengar for £400 the pair

Annoyingly I could see the others including popular characters like Pikachu at around £30-£40 on ebay. Unless the Haunter is THE one to have hence the higher price?

I don’t know that much about the market for these, especially for the Japanese ones, but some of them are very cheap on Mercari (~$5-15 range). It might be a combination of print numbers and popularity, but I think ones of some popular pokemon like Pikachu, Gen 1 starters, etc. are really easy to find, which is probably why they’re cheaper on Ebay. I think the Haunter one might be less common? And I’m sure the Gengar one is popular (and probably less common) too. Not sure if it’s hundreds-of-dollars-level popular, but you might be surprised. Some of the English Johto books are extremely rare and can go for several hundreds when they pop up. Like everything else, these Pokemon Tales books have their own market!

Hands down one of the most beautiful cards I’ve seen. The detail of the shell poking above the water before the face and ripples coming over the eyes is an exquisite imagination of omanyte’s daily life. It’s enough to make me fall in love with a pokemon that I had not given much thought to before
