Positive Energy 3: Water

There’s a lot of different kinds of energy in the collecting space today: positive, negative, upset, excited, water, you name it.

Going with that theme, I will post an energy type, and you post your favorite card of that energy type. Feel free to include why you enjoy the card! The post with the most likes after an appropriate amount of time will win bragging rights and hopefully a badge.

Limit your entries to one card per post, and three posts per person max. Please write out the card and set name in text in addition to the image posted for posterity in case images break.

If people enjoy this, I’ll keep it going for additional energy types. Let’s go with Water type cards now.

Triple Get Feraligatr, with artwork from Expedition!
This card is very special to me due to a mix of nostalgia, rarity and the art itself

  1. Nostalgia due to me pulling the non-holo version of this card originally back when expedition packs cost 4 bucks. It’s memorable and I still have the OG card I pulled.

  2. The artwork itself. I love early-2000s CGI cards. They remind me of Pokemon Colloseum which is a highly nostalgic game for me. The style is very reminiscent of those 3D-animations and you could imagine him being in the arena.

  3. The rarity. This particular version of the artwork only exists as part of the Triple get lottery campaign, with 5000 total copies released. The artwork itself isn’t unique, but in my mind its by far the “best” version of the artwork due to the holo as well as the unique history of the card.

(Here’s more information about the campaign if anyone’s interested: Starter Triple Get Campaign - Pokumon)

My favorite is an easy answer for the Water-Type:

But as with the previous two types, I’ll look a bit further to some other favorites of mine, which I’ll post later today.

Squirtle - 2004 Starter Deck

This card is absolute vibes. I think Squirtle cards tend to exude a lot of positive vibes but this card is absolute peak. Such a happy little card and is very sure to put a smile to your face.

Cheers!

My favourite is the Aquapolis (The Town on No Map) Suicune illustrated by Atsuko Nishida

Although I usually prefer artworks with lots of details in its background, there is beauty in the simplicity and originality of this Corphish, with its reflections in the bubbles underwater.

There are only three non-Seviper TCG cards featuring Seviper, and this is by far the best one. Love this artwork, especially when you’d put it next to the Team Magma’s Groudon EX with reversed poses. This is not only part of my Seviper collection, but also my FA Supporter/CHR collection. And in addition, the Double Crisis set is my favorite of all TCG sets, which is an additional bonus.

There are a bunch of amazing Omanyte and Omastar artworks, but this one is probably my favorite. Love the details in the background and the post-apocalyptic environment, which is pretty ironic for a suposedly extinct ancient Pokémon when you think about it.

The first time I saw this FA Poliwhirl I immediately bought a Japanese copy of it. Love the reflection of Poliwhirl and the blue/purple colors, even more so as a holo card in person.

Non-holo Southern Islands doesn’t seem to get much love. Enjoy the summer breeze with some refreshing water and cute Pokemon!

Milotic (ex hidden legends)

I’m very sentimental towards this card as it was the first holo I ever pulled (and first “rare” card I ever owned).

More objectively however, I think Nishida’s soft, watercolor-esque style helps convey an ethereal underwater scene in which Milotic is gracefully swimming near some coral.

For each of the above reasons, this card is what immediately comes to my mind when I think of water-type Pokemon.

This duo is a memory made real. I remember fishing through every patch of water on Route 119 for a Feebas on every playthrough of emerald; it took a lot of time but for me this was a non-negotiable. Seeing feebas lurking in water here reminds me so much of those moments searching through the river as a 10-year-old.

Milotic exploding through the surface of the water here would be shocking to see. It reminds of grinding through the battle tower when suddenly a random NPC throws out a shiny Milotic, absolut madness

As always some pretty good cards already posted but this time it was pretty easy as it is my favorite card of all time and my favorite Pokémon of all time:

I for one read the rules.

Omanyte Legend Maker.

The art style feels like a nice vibrant one. Lines that look like thick paint.

I think we can all relate to omanyte. He just wants a cute omanyte girlfriend. But love unrequitted, he cries alone. The love of others reminding him on his lowly state. Will our little fella find himself a girlfriend? I sure hope so. I’m rooting for you omanyte!

Also I have the only copy I’ve ever seen with a swirl perfectly in the heart made of bubbles, so I’m always going to show that off. Sadly the holo pattern makes the bubbles harder to see. I highly suggest Legend Maker Omanyte.
