The Giant Art Thread

Welllll… there is of course this wacky bad boy of an Omastar from the golden era that sadly never made it out of Japan:

And I’ll just use this opportunity to spam the other lovely fossil cards from Vending that were never released in the Western world.

@muk Stunning artwork in those cards! I’ll have to pick those up at some point. My current collection goal is quite expensive so it’s going to take me a bit to collect other cards.

Thanks for sharing by the way. I haven’t checked out this thread nearly enough! I much rather talk about the beauty or art of a card over the price. Sometimes the money blinds people from the cards themselves. :relaxed:

Best depiction of this derpy whale.

Wth, that’s an odd coincidence. :open_mouth: :face_with_spiral_eyes: When I was making my list for the week 10 Pokedex Artworks I noticed that Bouffalant in the Natu artwork for the first time, and posted about it in the Hidden thread a few hours back. And only now I read you’ve posted exactly that here 13 hours prior. This is kinda scary, since I swear I hadn’t seen the reddit post you mentioned nor your post…

Favorite Card Artwork of all time. WOTC Black Star Promo 41 - Lucky Stadium.

This card features Pikachu and Pichu flying atop a Charizard over the New York City Skyline. The Empire State Building is visible in the background, and the Pokemon Center New York building is directly beneath (In the center of the stadium atop the building is the PCNY Logo). This card was only handed out at the grand opening of the PCNY. Also, This Pokemon Center was turned into a Nintendo Store around 2005, so this card is a really cool piece of history!

Also… Can we all just appreciate early 2000’s CGI??? If you follow me on IG i talk about it all the time. It just has a certain charm to it.

@krill YES! IMO That Umbreon artwork is tied with Aquapolis Umbreon for the best Umbreon artwork! Glad others appreciate it as much as I do!

Yes, I wish the promo version was a rare in the set. I love the story it tells between the two cards. Umbreon sleeping/tired at day and awake at night.

That is awesome. For some reason it reminds me of these ex-era secret rare holos:

Classic lovely Himeno from the 2002 McDonald’s e-Minimum set. It doesn’t get much better than that Marill.
The whole set is really beautiful and ambitious actually. Wish I would’ve picked them up when they were 150 USD for a whole NM-M set :sob:

Even as a kid I really enjoyed base set Abra. The abra looks so peaceful, tired after a day of teleporting. (Apologies if someone has posted here before.)

I only came across this card recently (bit late), but really liked it and hadn’t seen it posted elsewhere before, so thought I would share!

I love the colouring; it just works so well with the darkness type background and the impression of the sea at night.

I haven’t previously really appreciated modern (blinded by the ‘busyness’ of the chase cards), but a lot of the artwork on the commons/uncommons is really impressive. Might have to start making personalised binders of the few favourites per set.

I wish we had more casual portraits of art like they do with Pikachu and Eevee. Like, it would be great to see a trainer washing off a Gyarados, or a metalsmith sharpening a Skarmory, or a gardener trimming a Venusaur. In that same vein, scenes where we see Pokemon playing more like Komiya’s Alolan Vulpix - imagine a Vibrava catching a Pokeball midflight, or a Diglett playing peekaboo with Marill.

I love the dynamic action shots as much as the next person, but I kind of want to see more living/casual portraits!

Thought aside, holycraplookathowcutethisMarillis!!!

Like these?

I came across both of these when I made my week 12 post here for @pokemontrader 's Pokedex Artwork weekly threads.

What I like about his thread series is that I can take a look at every single Pokémon artwork eventually (excluding Trainers/Energies and such). It takes some time of course to post each week, but it’s fun to see some artworks I was previously unaware of, like these two above.

@quuador,exactly like those two! They have an energy that I feel is innate with what Pokemon first visualized and makes it seem like the world is more actively lived in. And yeah, I’m appreciating the art a lot more because of his threads. I have to sit down for a solid half hour+ to go through it but it always feels worth it when I do find I have the time.

It also helps find some hidden art cards as well. :stuck_out_tongue:

Was going through my neo binder and saw this card and it never really occurred to me that this thing is in low earth orbit. Not sure how they explain that or if the artist just went a little crazy for this card. Regardless, it does look pretty cool.

Does anyone know if full resolution version of the pictures are ever released? I assume the answer is no save for some specific ones, but there’s so many that I’d love to see in higher res.
