@surfnsnow, I just opened a few boxes from darkness ablaze, and that was the most memorable card for me!
Change the name of this thread to ‘The Giant Komiya Thread’
I mostly collect modern and artist sets. Sekio is one of my favorites because all of his share the same watercolor style. I’ve tried to get my hands on everything Sekio and Kanako Eo have done:
Naoki Saito’s style is very anime-esque and I’d definitely try to get a complete collection of his if it wasn’t so damn expensive (Tropical Beaches and all)
Wow what an awesome idea! Some artwork I never knew existed. Yay, more cards to add to my list now lol.
Some cards just have amazing backgrounds - Himeno felt like making a Nightcore wallpaper for this Steenee
I would love to see a movie done in Sekio’s style!
Sowsow is one of my favorite new artists. Sow this card again today and wanted to share. Pokemon center needs to sell that Squirtle water can:
This card is so awesome to look at in person, way better than Jirachi ex from crystal guardians imo
sowsow! I set these aside from my Tag Team All Stars box. Such a pleasant style.
Going through my Rocket binder. Love this art. This could almost be a shiny primeape.
I love that art as well, a lot of the gen 1 cards look shiny
I love ebay sellers like this. Always keep artwork that gets included with the cards I get, most of the time I cherish them more than the cards themselves
I always liked Kouki Saitou’s art and especially this omanyte:
Saw this guy today and figured it deserved a spotlight.
This is the Japanese Exclusive Dark Fearow Game Boy promo. I remember it was the last GB promo I needed back in the day (2007ish).
It was pretty scarce and too this day I always irrationally think its the rarest. The art was immediately striking. Gives me vending vibes. Back when Kizuki used that bold black outline:
That was my last GB promo, too. It was such a pain to find a raw mint one for a reasonable price from someone who’s willing to ship to Europe. I still think it’s the least common (by far!), but maybe also the least appealing one to many people. At least I needed a bit of time to be able to appreciate this abstract piece.
Here is another one I came to like over time. The yellow, wilted looking vegetation on this Dark Venusaur really gives it a zombie-like “dark” appearance.
En easy way to search all cards from a particular artist it the “Artist Name” filter over at www.tcgcollector.com across all sets and series.
Only English cards but it gives a good overview if you want to see what a particular artist has done at a glance. Then you can go down the rabbit hole on Bulbapedia from there
But is it not indeed the rarest GB promo? Similar to @muk, It was also the most difficult and expensive one for me to find. I ended up buying a PSA9 to crack for my binder. The other GB promos (e.g. Mewtwo, Lugia, Dragonite, Venusaur) are holofoils and of vastly more popular species, so even if they were of similar rarities, surely they should have much higher demand than a non-holo fearow? Yet they are cheaper and more available, in my experience.
This definitely constitutes as a Hidden Art as well but I just found this little mini-story between a Bouffalant saving a couple of Natu that was posted on reddit:
The card that got me back into collecting Pokemon as an adult, unremarkable as it seems lol.
The original fossil Pokemon are some of my favorites! My favorite is Kabutops and Kabuto. But I can’t help but love their counterparts Omanyte and Omastar. For some strange reason they never made any good 1st edition holo Omnastar’s. No E Series or ex era either. Not in Diamond and Pearl or black and white. They finally did one in X and y which is a Break card. Really the one time you guys print a Omnastar it’s a break?? Obviously there are some nice non Holo one’s but im sure you get my point. Sorry for the rant and that’s a beautiful card you posted
