Pokemon Scarlet/Violet leaks (SPOILERS!)

Agreed. They have boosted them a bit over the years, but mostly they are still a bad option under most circumstances. They could use an upgrade, this is certainly better than nothing.

Fitting that TPC chose Breloom, one of the very few successful users of a multi hit move without Skill Link, to demonstrate it.

So Pokemon has released the name of the aye-aye character we have been hearing about: its name is Grafaiai. Apparently, it uses graffiti (kind of like Smeargle I guess; maybe it gets Sketch?) and is a Normal/Poison type.

@c0ll3ct0r Normal/Poison could probably be pretty solid competitively, no? The Poison typing removes Normal’s Fighting weakness, so instead of picking up a weakness, it actually picks up an immunity (Ghost). Not only that, but it is a Toxic Spikes absorber. Plus, Poison itself is actually a decent typing with the prominence of Fairy types in the competitive scene. Curious what your thoughts are.

Here is what an aye-aye looks like irl. (its kinda cursed)

Stall is a mixed bag.
Adding ground weakness to anything that is supposed to stall (as in true stall, not tanking) is always very bad, removing the fighting weakness is fantastic, the psychic weakness is much more negligible. The problem with the Fairy resist is that it is great on paper (really great actually, as none of them have ground coverage), but in practice fairy is not that great offensively at the moment outside the Tapu’s.

It’s a pretty terrible stab combo, even now unfortunately. Toxic Spikes absorbing is nice but the meta is not particularly TS friendly, Toxapex exists, and I think the terastallizing is going to favor Ghost and Steel types more than anything so I doubt it is going to be more viable with this upcoming gen.

I think supporters would be the winners with this type combo, so the prospect of giving it to what could potentially be a suicide lead like Smeargle is definitely an interesting prospect.

This type combo with levitate on a strong supporter would be absolutely lethal.

I was actually thinking of this from more of an offensive standpoint. That Poison stab would surely deter most Fairy types from coming in (this is, of course, assuming that Grafaiai is not completely bereft offensively, which, if it’s anything like Smeargle, it will be).

Also getting the feeling this will be a single-stage Pokemon.

The problem is that Normal/Poison just has way too many viable switch ins. Corviknight, Dragapult, Landorus-T, Garchomp, Ferrothorn, Kartana, Magnezone, Melmetal, Scizor, Skarmory, they all destroy it and you’d be hard pressed to run enough coverage for all of them. And triple that number with the terastallizing.

The coverage would have to be great (dark/ghost and ice/fire, which is not that farfetched given the normal type actually but it means Tyranitar will just sit on you), and I think it would need to be an all out attacker with 2 coverage moves to not be dead in the water, and that necessitates either really high attack, a great ability, orb (which means you’re on a timer with lots of coin toss decisions to make) or banded (and banded into a niche type means it will be very difficult to maneuver, think something like specs Leaf storm.)

I think there could be a niche, a solid one even, but it would be a less than optimal niche. Double stab where there is always an immunity waiting and pressuring effectively one type weakness (fairy.)
