Collection Goals Post Here

Current goal is to obtain every WOTC 1st Ed holo, up to Neo destiny.

I only really started back in February when I found my old cards, so it’s been a lot of fun chasing down cards I need, but also very expensive haha.

About 85% complete, only a few non-shining 1st editions left to collect. The shinings will be a big hurdle though. That might take me a little while to fully complete, so if that’s all that I have left to chase I’ll most likely just take my time to finish that up.

Then when I finish that goal, maybe move onto the e-readers, but we’ll see haha

My goal is to not get to discouraged by the recent explosion in prices, reassess my previous goals to better fit the current market, and to continue collecting.

I have a few goals but they change a lot and I need to get more focused. I did just receive a Jungle Flareon PSA 9 1st edition to complete my goal of all Jungle Holos PSA 9!

  1. All Ampharos English cards in PSA 10 plus pack art and artwork featuring Ampharos (Slowly chipping away).

  2. Neo Genesis 1st Edition Holo Set in PSA 9 (getting close!)

  3. Base Set 1st Edition Holo Set in PSA 8/9 (this is my newest goal and just getting started).

  4. Long Term Goal of getting all WOTC 1st Edition holo in PSA 9. Have slowed down on this for now, slowly picking up one or two.

  5. Started to dabble into modern cards so PSA 10 Hidden Fates SV set and going to collect some Sword and Shield PSA 10 FA and Rainbow cards. Definitely the gold shiny cards as well.

Too many things, can’t stay focused haha.

Just joined E4 and currently my overarching goals have been:

Binder Collection:

  1. Finish my Lv.x set (5 more left)
  2. Finish my Legend set (Also 5 more left lol)
  3. Finish my old school ex set (Way too many to count)

As for my graded collection, I will be making purchases that I think are undervalued, I have some 1st edition neo destiny psa 10 holos that I want to get more of but dont think in the current climate it would be financially responsible

This was my first post, I plan on making a collection post to show all of you shortly!

There are some cards (about four) I may never get (or never get again), but are part of my goals: one’s a trophy, one’s a jumbo, one’s an eReader, and one’s a newback prize.

Then there are about twelve that are more realistic and my highest priorities to attain (or replace in better condition or a different version if I have them in my collection already).

Finally, there’s dozens (if not more than a hundred), I’d like but am not zealous for at the moment.

Helps me to categorize my goals (and track them in documents or spreadsheets) and think about them systematically. That said, I’m not someone who chases “all” of something or the highest grades—just go for the cards I think are cool in a condition that looks pleasing to me!

Short term I’m trying to finish my Japanese set binders up through the end of e series (only need 2 more cards!!!). Long term I’m going to try to complete binder sets of English up through Team Rocket and a binder of Japanese full art trainers.

Extremely long term (unlikely I’ll ever truly finish it, but who knows what the future holds):

  • One of each Pikachu card printed in every language and variation. I’ve got around 1300+ unique Pikachu TCG cards right now, and there are around 55 more to find to complete it (mostly Sample/Test prints; the SNAP Photo Contest 1999; six out of the twelve Art Academy Pikachus; the 20th anniversary Solid Gold Base Pikachu; and some extremely short-printed and hard to find foreign cards).

Reasonably long term:

  • Moltres WotC #21 in every language and variation, including all sealed variations, and the English/Japanese PSA-10 and BGS variations. Just need the rare Australian sealed variation with Game Boy Color insert, as well as both Japanese Web booster packs with Moltres in it (both 1st and unlimited edition) to complete it for now.

Medium term (I hope):

  • One of each Seviper card printed in every language and variation. Since I’ve got the unlimited edition World Championship Pack Battle Frontier card incoming after searching for it for 3+ years, I now just need to find two more cards to complete it: Seviper from the same Japanese unlimited edition World Championship Pack, and the Spanish Hidden Fates Shiny Seviper (anyone who can help me with the second?)

Short term:

  • One of each English and Japanese exclusive Full Art Supporter card. This collection is complete right now, but I want to keep up with new releases.
  • The full National Index including all forms and Shiny Pokémon. I still need to update it for the next gen, but I’m saving money a bit right now. Might do so at the start of 2021 perhaps.
  • Yu-Gi-Oh rarity collection. The non-misprinted part is now complete (except for one TCG rarity which is exclusively used for 2015+ Trophy cards, so I just hope it will one day be printed on a different TCG card as well…) Right now I’m focusing on some misprinted rarities, especially a lot of No Name No Imprint ones. But more about that later, since I have loads of them incoming. Yu-Gi-Oh rarities have been my main focus for the past few months, together with Seviper and the Full Art Supporters.

Already completed:

  • Apart from the FA Supporters, I also have all five Ancient Mew cards in PSA-10 (or actually, I have six Ancient Mew ©2019 prints at PSA, but I’m confident at least one will grade a 10; the other four I have as PSA-10 in my possession).

Greetz,
Quuador

@miggs I like your goals! Neo-E series all have amazing art! When you get to Shinings get 1st edition Shining Charizard and 1st edition Shining Tyranitar first  just a tip but those are hardest to find.

You sound like me. I collect every era I don’t discriminate haha. But I tend to focus on one era at a time. I don’t jump around much. So all X and y cards and sword and shield have been put off until I finish every other era. Those eras should be the least likely for price increases as well  but yes I love rainbow rares and gold cards and shinys just like you

Hey guys I’m very excited I’ve completed a ton of collection goals lately including finishing ex era through Heart Gold/Diamond and Pearl era. I’ll be doing another binder update once all the mail comes in and I find the couple Pokemon im missing in my collection  Trying to revive this positive thread and hear others recent achievements  anyone else complete any collection goals or decide on new goals lately?

A new goal of mine is to complete a base set binder collection from cards that I purchase in person from local game shops on my travels in different cities.

I just got base set Raichu from a small mountain town in California called Big Bear Lake.

My goals:

Short term:
-Complete Japanese Detective Pikachu set in PSA 10

Long term:
-PSA 9 base set 1st edition Chinese
-All numbered Japanese promo’s in PSA 10 (This’ll take my whole life, but then again, I’ll always have something to collect  )

for fun: (so I do this in between with extremely low priority)
-As many different Venusaur/ivysaur/bulbasaur cards as possible
-collecting sealed Japanese promo’s

Short term:

  • select gold stars in PSA 10
  • close out aquapolis reverse binder set in pack fresh condition (need to upgrade like 10 cards, a random bunch… like psyduck and sneasel)
  • close out 1st ed neo discovery and revelation binder sets in pack fresh condition (need random non-holo rares)
  • 1st ed PSA 10 chansey
  • upgrade final handful of cards from EX-deoxys reverse set
  • fill in random EX card gaps from EX series that I have already started

Medium term (2021):

  • complete gold star set in PSA 10
  • complete remaining WOTC pack fresh binder sets (gym challenge/heroes and neo destiny - the “reprints”)
  • selectively complete pack fresh binder sets of all EXs and reverse holos
  • “maybe” get around to packs fresh expedition reverse binder set
  • continue to buy selective key cards in PSA 10

It felt good to write it all down… going to take a while. If anyone has minty raw cards consistent with the above, especially ones that are not worth getting graded because the value arbitrage potential is too low or the chance of getting a 10 is too low (corner nick or something), PM me! I literally have a callous on my hand from cracking open PSA cases almost every day

@jonandek Glad you’re staying busy. And you have some awesome goals. I like other people that enjoy collecting. All the price complaints get to be so annoying. And if you look hard enough there is always diamonds in the rough being skipped over  I’ve picked up about 150 great purchases this week all in moderate price range hence why so many. I also just found another collection goal I’m about to start that has me extremely excited. I’m shocked how cheap these still are. Just waiting to get another couple hundred to spend so I can grab them  sorry for being vague I usually talk more about specifics after the cards are in hand. Nothing worse then giving others ideas of what should I buy haha Also you need to teach me your PSa cracking skills. I need to crack a 6 for my binder this week

Short term:

I’m looking to finish my ungraded sets with mint cards. It’s so slow going though. With the influx of people grading cards prices have greatly increased and I’ve stumbled across less cards.

Long term:

I’m going to transition into PSA cards of my favorite sets. Can’t wait to see those prices lol.

I have a surefire way to crack PSA cards. Would be easier if I made a video but it’s basically this:

  • get wire cutter
  • clip bottom two case corners but not too close to the card corners
  • clip top two case corners. You want to expose each corner of the PSA label when you do this. I try not to clip the PSA label as I like saving them but sometimes I have no choice
  • with the wire cutters, clip the ENTIRE top edge off of the PSA card. Try to clip off the entire top seal
  • at this point the card is ready for easy cracking with (IMO) almost no risk to the card
  • get a small screwdriver. Use it at each corner at the top of the psa case like a lever. MAKE SURE you get the screwdriver under the side casing when doing this so the entire top of the case lifts uniformly. You risk cracking otherwise. Go easy
  • lift with the screwdriver as a lever (carefully) until you are ready to pull the top case cover off with your hands. Lift UP and BACK so you don’t risk damaging the card. Once you have started lifting the top, you can’t stop because if the card has shifted and the case top snaps back down that could be bad.
  • once the top is off, blow any case dust off the card and gently flip it over until the card falls into your hand. Don’t reach in and grab the edges
  • sleeve the bottom of card, checking to make sure that no case dust gets in there
  • while holding the sleeved part of the card, use a micro-fiber cloth (like you use to clean your glasses) to gently brush the exposed part of the card
  • when done, slide card into sleeve
  • enjoy the card as it was meant to be enjoyed, place in binder
  • or if you are feeling adventurous flick the card across the room like a frisbee to see how far it flies

It sounds like a lot of steps, but put on some good music and its quite therapeutic and relaxing. Once you get the hang its second nature. I have done it hundreds of times. Most expensive cards I have cracked:

  • PSA 7 Alpha Black Lotus (re-submitted to Beckett as a BGS 9)
  • PSA 8 1st ed base charizard (currently in my binder)
  • entire set of the rest of 1st ed holos in PSA 8 or 8.5 (all in binder)
  • entire holo set of shadowless PSA 8 holos

Ya it’s just a Mew prime. And I’d keep it in the case if it was at least a 7 and from the looks of it the card looks like it was robbed of a grade or two anyways. I’ll follow your steps  I just organized my new 3rd binder last night. Ready to fill it up. I actually bought the same one as last time because it’s so damn nice haha. And I can’t wait till my next round of purchases you guys are in store for some amazing top notch cards that get overlooked while everyone is frenzying over prices

:ninja: Short Term: Grab the last 11 Ex’s i need to complete the 139 Non-Promotional Set Ex’s in PSA10 (Out of the 128 i do have, 5 are 9s so far). -

  • Slowly replace the 9s; considering the 9s i do have, are mostly cards with a pop of 15 or less in PSA10. I’ve been also considering picking up the last few i need in 9 and call it game there and move forward, but can’t decide just yet.

Im looking for Lapras and Chansey from Ruby Sapphire, Deoxys#99 and Salamene Ex from Ex Deoxys; obviously Milotic from Ex Emerald (Got a 9); Deoxys from the same set, and a couple dragon frontiers Exs like dragonite and salamence.

Mid Term: Complete Skyridge holos in PSA10 (im 29/32 so far). Im missing Vaporeon, Articuno (which i sold to someone that needed it to complete the set) and Gengar.

:tada: Long Term: Seems impossible nowadays considering prices and availability but i’d love to grab the following sets in PSA10:

1st Edition Neo Destiny Holos.
1st Edition Neo Discovery.
1st Edition Neo Revelation. (a Mix of 9s and 10s considering prices). -
and 1st Edition Neo Genesis (a Mix of 9s and 10s considering prices).
