Just a week and half ago finally pulled the trigger on a PSA 8 Gold Star Rayquaza for $3k, after a few months of organising finances… Arriving in the next few days (can’t wait). Now onto PSA 8 Latios and Latias!
Also pulled the trigger on an 8 Torchic for $1k, these cards are getting too pricey!
Funnily enough… I was one of those interested parties! Shame I took too long (even though time was so little) to go for it. But really happy about who it went too. Very deserving.
Got me to pursue my gold star set further and not delay anymore!
Literally just ordered it but too excited not to share. So the instagram account electabuzz1989 shared this New Yorker cover a couple of days ago; I checked ebay and there was one person selling just the cover (someone actually snapped it up today lol), but I didn’t want just a tattered shell. I think I knew you could order prints of old covers, and it turns out you can. They’re more than I was expecting, but hopefully it turns out ok. It should go well the Scream promo postcards I have framed
I also bought a couple of prints by Brett Helquist, who illustrated the A Series of Unfortunate Events books, but idk if anyone cares about those

Loved that series growing up. Super sweet illustrations
@pokecollectoramy I remember looking at that picture of them in the trunk with my friend, and he found it hilarious that the paper Violet was sitting on said ‘BUT’

Man, it’s been close to 20 years since I read them through. I should run through it again and see if it holds up. I thought it was so “smart” back then haha
3 months after deciding to go after one of these I’ve finally made a purchase. This is the German WotC Black Star Pichu card which is significantly rarer than the English version. I’m very happy to be adding this to my collection today - this is the 24th German Pichu card I’ve acquired and is by far the hardest to find. The only version of this card I have left to pick up is the Italian one which is fortunately readily available.
I think the order of rarity for these is something like: English < Japanese < Italian < French < German < Spanish - I was lucky enough to pick up the Spanish version 6 weeks ago.
I think the only difficult European-language card I have left to find now is the 1st Edition Spanish Neo Genesis Pichu. If anyone has one of those or has a lead on where I could pick one up I’d love to know about it.
Out of curiosity: where did you ended up finding the German Pichu? Did they by any chance had a German Flug- or Surf-Pikachu as well?
PS: If you do manage to find a source for Spanish 1st edition Neo Genesis cards in your search for the Pichu, make sure to let @taatrob know as well. He collects Togepi in all languages, and the Spanish 1st edition Neo Genesis Togepi is the final card he’s currently missing.

Just picked up a set of sealed 1999-2000 (or 4th edition as I like to call it) base decks. Now I’m working on a couple other variants which I just found out about.
I got this really cool Jolteon promo and a graded copy of a super cool Rayquaza promo. I forgot I actually have a few copies of the English Ray that I plan to get graded whenever reality settles down.
Ok so basically
kreb
@quuador I picked it up on CardMarket. This was the only Black Star promo they had though I’m afraid!
These First Appearance cards are my favorite of all the Topps chase cards. Would love to have a Lugia someday!
Arrived today. Does anyone have opinions or knowledge on the markings along the crimps, like what caused them, or perhaps a similar sealed product to compare? Active listings of these long crimp packs by established sellers show similar marks, so I opted to make the purchase, but they seem more pronounced in person. Thanks to anyone who indulges me.
Some of you have already heard the news, but the majority not yet. Little over a month ago I lost an auction for an unlimited edition E1 Pikachu. Because Buyee has a limit of 300,000 Japanese Yen, I couldn’t bid any higher and it ended at 301,000. That price surprised me, considering it was a heavy played copy.
But, now I’m glad I lost that one, since a second (heavy played) copy from the same seller popped up two weeks ago. Which I ended up winning for 101,000 Japanese Yen, 1/3rd of that first one I lost.
It arrived at the Buyee warehouse a couple of days ago, and after I requested photos I just confirmed it’s indeed the unlimited edition version I was expecting, so it’ll soon be incoming to my place.
Very exciting to finally have been able to buy this illusive Japanese Pikachu card, considering I’ve been searching for it ever since I started collecting Pikachu cards seven years ago and it’s one of just 12 Pikachu cards I was missing. It may be in trash condition and still costed about 1k euros despite that, but I don’t care. Finding these Pikachu cards is hard enough as is, so I’m not too worried about condition. If it was NM it might actually have attracted a lot more bidders and ending up above what I could or would be willing to pay.
For those unaware of the significance of Japanese unlimited edition E1 cards, I can refer to this thread and this post on @pichufan 's blog. They’re still surrounded in a lot of mystery, but bits and pieces of information have emerged over the years including very recently. Regardless of their origin, they are among the rarest unlimited edition Japanese cards that exist, and a pain for any collector completionsts like myself. So I’m happy to say that ‘pain’ is now over, seven years after I started collecting Pikachu cards (assuming it arrives at my place without any issues in the near future).

Complete Gapless set with the Big 3 Graded. 2nd Gapless Set I was able to acquire.
And hopefully I can add 2 more Gapless Charizards

I was watching that auction very closely but I assumed it was you as the highest bidder so I didn’t want to bid you up
So happy for you! What an incredibly rare card to knock off your Pikachu list!!!
