We all talk about what our favorite cards are, and argue over which ones are the best. However, the truth is that many people have the same opinions and thus some cards get really, really expensive and hard to find. This usually means that we are forever left longing for that Japanese Umbreon PLAY promo or Pikachu Illustrator that we will quite likely never own. (Glares at @smpratte) Sometimes we have a favorite Pokemon that we base our entire collection off of. So, here’s the question.
What’s your #1, all time, favorite card that you are currently in possession of? It must be only one card. Mine is my PSA 10 Archie’s Ace SR. Artwork is amazing and Archie is my favorite villain of all time. He’s just damn cool.
Mods: If we already have a thread like this, please direct me to it. I couldn’t find one but I may have missed it.
Probably my coro artboard (1) for me. I’d really say the set, as the 3 together feature all 151 gen 1 poke’s but if I had to choose just one it’d be the number 1 print.
Possibly my PSA 10 Shining Charizard. I am not a massive Charizard fan, but it was the first card in my collection I bought that cost me any relatively significant amount of money($55. Ungraded). Whilst not a huge amount by any means, when all you have bought is a couple of 5-10 dollar Base Set Holos a 55 dollar card is a huge investment.
Funnily enough when I bought it I had a couple of friends laugh at me because they thought I overpaid by a lot.
While its not super rare or expensive it means the most to me because I got it from a Pokemon Centre in Japan on my first trip there and will always be a good memory, plus the artwork looks really neat too. It came from the 15th Anniversary Pokemon Centre pack and on my next trip to Japan this November I hope to pick up some more cool cards.
I find most dedicated collectors will rarely have their most expensive card as their most favourite, and if they do it’s incidentally the most expensive and almost has nothing to do with the sentimental value of the card.
Story behind the acquisition/Personal connection to the Pokemon itself/Time bought in the persons collecting ‘career’
All these things usually have much more importance to someone than a price.
I totally get what you’re saying Milhouse. My japanese birthday pikachu would be one of my favorites, but the seller tricked me. So I’m not able to enjoy it as much.
Now, I traded my teach set for a Natta Wake Pikachu. It somehow didn’t deliver on its promises.
So, the card I absolutely loved when I received it was the Totodile Neo Intro Pack base style Pikachu. I think it is my favorite card atm. Might be unlimited Chinese base when it arrives, but nothing tops the neo intro one atm
My semi-jumbo teach pikachu has a terrible pikachu card on it, but it is the most rare.
My number one card is very hard because I have a few different number ones. I have my most valuable one. I have the one I lve been chasing the most. I have my most unexpected. I of course have my Favorite pokemon, tranitar, and it’s very hard to pick just one. So ill give a few different # 1s.
#1 most desired - psa 10 English Latias gold star. #1 Tyranitar - (this is hard to choose) psa 10 1st ed tyranitar #1 valued card - Psa 10 espeon gold star #1 unexpected - psa 10 charizard full art
My favorite is most likely my FPO set. I went through absolute hell bringing this into my collection for keeps. It also really showed to me that I’m in collecting for the right reasons as the final resource input for attainment outweighs the potential realized cash value.
Honorable mention goes to my sealed Southern Islands collection. That sucker is a nostalgia bomb right to the feels.
I’d say my number one card is my Neo Revelation Unlimted Shining Gyarados that I pulled from a pack as a kid. It will always be my favorite card as it was what inspired me to start collecting Gyarados cards. Prior to that, I had Giovanni’s Gyarados, Misty’s Gyarados, and Base Set Gyarados. I never dreamed of getting the Shining Gyarados when it came out and so badly wish I did. Then one fateful day, I bought three packs, and behold, one of them held this gorgeous card.
But that’s my TCG collection!
If we’re going for other flats, my other favorite is my Mini Nintendo 64 Pokemon Stadium Gyarados card. Simply because I’ve never come across anything like it and it’s one of those official Nintendo items that you almost never hear about!
