What’s your most recent non-Pokemon purchase?

There are abunch of free ones on 3dcults, but I have also sub’d to some really good sculptors patreon’s. Yosh studios is by far my favorite in not only the designs but the way he cuts up the model. I found a tutorial that I believe to be the way he achieves his cutting up of the model to leave as little seams/gaps as possible.

Decided to import some awesome reading material for the colder months so here’s everything I got my hands on in the January - February interval:

Unsorted goodness 1:

Unsorted goodness 2:

Unsorted goodness 3:

The manga stacked vertically are mainly Volumes of Kakegurui Twin (賭ケグルイ 双), Erased (僕だけがいない街) and Fire Punch (ファイアパンチ). I also plan on watching the Erased movie with none other than the legendary Fujiwara Tatsuya down the line.

Blood on the Tracks (血の轍):

This one will get under your skin. And that’s putting it lightly. A true masterclass in psychological horror by Oshimi Shūzō, the mangaka who also gave us Inside Mari (ぼくは麻理のなか), Happiness (ハピネス), The Flowers of Evil (惡の華) and Welcome Back, Alice (おかえりアリス) just to name a few!

Gigant (ギガント):

I like Oku Hiroya’s other title starting with G a lot more (the Gantz series), but they’re very hard to find nowadays so I settled on Gigant for now.

Jagaaan (ジャガーン):

Very peculiar manga about superpowers. Very fun. Amazing art to boot!

Oshi no Ko (【推しの子】):

What can I say, I’m simply won over! I also really enjoyed up the live action TV series.

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (ゾン100〜ゾンビになるまでにしたい100のこと〜):

Great slice of life zombie apocalypse manga written by the genius, Asō Haro, who gave us Alice in Borderland (今際の国のアリス). Was missing Volume 16 at the time of capturing this photo, but it has since arrived. Next Volume coming March 18th so I’m really looking forward to that one!

To be continued.

Awesome purchases! I haven’t read any of these (not really in my wheelhouse) but ive heard they’re all great series. Honestly been thinking about getting Oshi no Ko but haven’t really heard much about it besides pretty basic “it’s good,” any opinions you have so far?

Also nice to see I won’t be the only one posting manga here :handshake:

Figured I’d group some related ones together. First, I (at least to my knowledge) completed my collection of official Dornier 728JET models with the arrival of this Lufthansa one:

And then I started to also get interested in another failed national Regional Jet project in the form of the Mitsubishi Space Jet. So I got myself models of two of the prototypes as well as an official shirt from Japan:

Not only is it good, it’s also insanely popular to the point that it already has the three checkmarks: Anime + Live action adapation + Movie adaptation. It’s also the only completed manga series written between 2020-present to have surpassed the 20 million copies in circulation mark. (The only ongoing manga series in that same timeframe with the same distinction would be Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End - currently at 24 million copies sold)

Even if you broaden the timeframe by 2 more years, from 2018-present, only 4 more manga outperform it: Blue Lock, Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, Spy × Family. And those are all huge IPs.

That in and of itself is impressive, especially when you consider there are only 16 Volumes to the series.

Sales doesn’t tell the whole story, of course, so for the other side of the medal: Oshi no Ko is not for everyone. It tackles heavy topics like childhood trauma, cyberbullying, jealousy, PTSD, stalking and has a dash of the supernatural as well. And all of that takes place within a broader shell of the Japanese Idol culture world, albeit with a very fresh take. And it’s cheesy at times, super cheesy even, but I really like that.

In closing, definitely give it a shot, you might really end up liking it. Maybe borrow the first Volume from someone or watch the pilot episode of the live action adaptation on Netflix.

Not sure if anyone collects Sorcery or artist proofs but I loved this alpha art and the drawing on the back was gorgeous. The sorcery community doesn’t love grading but I do lol

That back drawing is amazing!

Wow, amazing artwork on the back. Really well done. Can you please help explain what makes it an Artist Proof in this case? Is it the artwork on the front itself or the custom artwork at the back?

Thanks for sharing the pickup. It is very lovely.

Cheers!

Hey so in most TCGs that aren’t Pokemon, the artists are awarded 25 or 50 copies of each card they draw that have fully blank backs but the front is the commercial artwork. Collectors will often request the artists to sketch on the back if the artist is selling!

Finished the manga, still need to check out the live action. Kinda reminded me of Beck: Mongolian chop squad. Honestly im surprised its as popular as it seems to be but i suppose im not the target audience. Either way, thanks for all the details about it, was nice to try something new.
