While I completely get where you’re coming from but I have to kindly disagree. Put into context, CGI Fossil Gengar absolutely works. I’m not saying it would have trumped a more traditional media style, but Gengar is one of the few gen 1 Pokemon that works well with the earlier primitive 3D software…so I give my kudos to Creatures/PCL and whoever else is involved for diversifying the art styles of the earlier sets and also major kudos to Keiji Kinebuchi for all of his 3D work in the card game, including the OG energy symbols.

What about this gengar works? Last I checked gengar doesn’t have that kind of weird fur like texture. Yeah I know, blah blah kinebuchi was great for what he had to work with but that doesn’t change the fact that this is mostly cgi bs with no background, and I frankly would’ve preferred a sugimori copy paste.

In terms of art style and the card itself, I’d say the basic promo - SM106 for Dawn wings Necrozma. It’s ok at least.

I’m actually not too much of a fan of the Gastly line, but I do like this artwork! Because if you look closely you’ll see the shadows of a Gastly and gengar in the background.
