In 2021 I added more cards I wanted than cards I actually obtained as Shiny pokemon featured heavily so for 2022 my only goal is to outpace releases with additions. How likely that is depends on if we get more Shiny gx style sets or not but I hope they give them a bit of a hiatus to allow people like me to catch up. Shinies are supposed to be rare and I’d like them to go back to that.
I don’t remember if I posted in this thread last year, but I can definitely say that in the last year I was able to learn about and acquire more cards than I had in the previous two years! This year (2021) I expanded my collection to Japanese promos and set cards, and not so much English anymore.
In 2022 I would like to hopefully complete a few of these goals:
-
Binder collection of the Japanese promos from 1996-2002. Still need the fan club promos, 7 more of the Gameboy promos, Trade please promos, 4 more of the Masaki’s, and Trainers Magazine P-Promos. I was able to obtain a clean copy of the Grand Party, so that kind of made my year for this binder!
-
This year I started looking into Japanese ex sets, and after analyzing every set, I would have to say Rocket Gang Strikes Back has my favorite ex holos! A few weeks ago I bought my very first holo from that set, a PSA 9 Rocket’s Scizor ex! I really like how the border of the card sparkles, and makes the Pokemon pop out at me! Hopefully I can obtain a few more of the ex holos from this set in the next year!
-
I also started doing artist binders this year. So far I’ve completed Ooyama, Asako Ito, and So-Taro. Currently I’m almost done with Shibuzoh and Souichirou Gunjima. Some of the artists I would like to start going after include:
-Aya Kusube
-Akira Komayama
-Kouki Saitou
-Sowsow (her Gengar VMAX has beautiful artwork)
-Komiya -
I’m also obsessed with Pikachu, so it would be cool to acquire a couple more of the Japanese cosplay Pikachu’s in PSA 10! I was happy to be able to pick up the Yokohama sailors, 2014 and 2015 Battle Festas, and the Comedian Pika’s over the past year!
I’ll be happy If I could complete at least one of these goals within the next year!
Yeah I’m happy with what I achieved this year - just fucking tonnes of promos. Nearly crapped my pants when the Stamp promos were revealed - definitely one of the highlights of the year. Managed to pick up several of the gorgeous Indigo Plateau July 2010 battle promos (070) in mint condition too - absolutely love this card. Seemingly impossible to get mint raw now. Other highlights include the Jirachi Player’s Club promo, Michina Temple Pikachu & Pals and some 7/11 promos. Only thing holding me back this year was a messy break-up and house move that ended up draining my bank account due to the record stonking house prices, so couldn’t go quite as HAM as I’d have otherwise liked. Oh well, maybe I’ll be swimming in that promo sea by the end of 2022.
2022 Goals:
Complete WOTC era Eeveelutions in English and Japanese. With everyone grading the Skyridge Umbreon I may as well grab a raw one while I still can.
Complete Eevee Heroes/Evolving Skies Eeveelutions. I’ve got the super expensive ones out of the way at least.
Stay on top of 2022 Eeveelution releases. Hopefully it’s not 150+ cards like it was this year.
Adding more mint condition Shining, Crystal, and Gold Star Pokemon to my collection! I decided to make this the focus of my collecting back in May. Here’s my progress so far:
6/20 Shining Pokemon (Neo Revelation and Neo Destiny) (unlimited and first edition)
3/15 Crystal Pokemon (including reverse holos)
6/28 Gold Star Pokemon (including Greninja)
I would like to add 10-15 more in 2022.
-Finishing my VS series collection I started 3 weeks ago (all the holos are already done )
-Starting and maybe finishing Vending Series and Japanese Southern Island
Goal for 2022
- BUY MORE PSA 10 Neo Genesis Pichu both 1st Edition and Unlimited
Finish the English 25th anniversary cards (celebrations + mcdonalds + FPP)
Low budget modern Japanese/English Promos like the coro coro pikachu coming out next month
If prices get low enough I’m pretty much auto-buy on English/Japanese psa9/cgc9 holos from base to dp/hgss at $20per (no dupes)
I want to collect more non-holo, old back Japanese promos. Something is just cool about them.
2022 Goals
Collect all Japanese WOTC holos for a binder - nm to mint condition
Collect all shadowless base set holos for wall art frame - still need charizard , poliwrath, clafairy, zapdos and blastoise. All in played condition
I’d like to work on my Litwick-line master set. I neglected all the Japanese common/uncommons because they can be super hard to find, especially as reverses. Ideally, I’ll have every card except the rarest one by the end of the year. Other than that, it’s just buying stuff I like as always.
My goals are pretty similar as last year overall.
But let’s start with a recap of how I did with what I mentioned in the 2021 thread:
I gave up on this. It’s just too hard and expensive to keep up, and I’m happy with my decision to collect Pikachu up to February 27th, 2021 (25th Pokémon Day) for all languages, and only all English Pikachu cards as well as the Base Set variations in all languages from that point onward. I also did pretty well with the Pikachu cards released prior to this date, since I’m missing just 10 out of 1433 right now, which was still 20 at the start of 2021.
Well, this is basically the same. It’s still complete, and I’d still like to keep it that way.
Apparently I was wrong, since a new Seviper was in the Chilling Reign set, but I do have all variations in all languages for it in my collection since about two months ago, so Seviper is still 100% complete.
I actually did both. But unfortunately it didn’t complete the collection, since I discovered Swedish (and possibly Danish) sealed variations exist for the Moltres WotC #21 promo, which is currently one of my biggest wants.
I added the PSA-10 South Korean Ancient Mew. I haven’t graded it myself though (for obvious reasons), but I was able to buy one for less than the current grading costs (125 USD including shipping/taxes), so pretty happy to complete the sixtet of PSA-10 Ancient Mew versions.
So yeah, my 2021 goals went very well looking back.
As for (hopefully) realistic goals for 2022:
- Keep up with FA Supporter, Seviper, and English Pikachu releases
- Try to find the Swedish sealed Moltres
- Try to find the German/Spanish Surfing/Flying Pikachu promos (not too realistic in terms of rarity and availability, since I’ve only seen two each ever - but the only realistic Pikachu cards left in terms of prices from the ten missing, since the others are: one English Art Academy Pikachu; four Japanese Art Academy Pikachu; and the Japanese SNAP Photo Contest Pikachu.
- Try to find the bronze, silver, golden, and metallic blue Seviper figures and Seviper Amada stickers (and perhaps some other missing non-TCG Seviper stuff). Apart from one Chinese knockoff figure that’s sold out everywhere, those metal ones are the only Seviper figures I’m aware of that I’m still missing.
Greetz,
Quuador
complete my bulbasaur psa 10 arita master set…
Finish meiji silver, gold, blue, black promo set(s)
Adding one new card I needed to my collection. It’s been > 1.5 years
Pokemon: Throw a bunch of money at my artist-binders. Too many to pick just one, but SowSow is one of the more recent examples.
Not-Pokemon: The deluxe Berserk volumes. Miura’s death hit me hard and a friend recently let me borrow one of the deluxe volumes; arguably the best way to experience that series.
Realistically for 2022, I need to continue tackling some debt and other responsibilities. Once in awhile I still allow myself a budget for collection pick-ups. A long way to go but it’s exciting.
Great thread!
My 2022 goal is to just keep collecting one of each Japanese promo/set holos in PSA 8/ CGC 8-8.5 from Gen 1 - 4. I’m very happy picking up lower grades for my Shinings/Goldstars/Crystals.
I keep my search pretty wide and look for value. PWCC has been great for this the last few months!
My long term goal is to complete all my vintage sets with slabbed holos and binder the rest of the cards to flick through all the artworks. Maybe one day when this is finished I can start looking into the more rarer promos…maybe even some modern who knows!
Have a great Christmas & New year everyone!
Last year I hit all of my goals and more, so I’m pretty excited for 2022.
-
Complete Voltorb collection. There will likely be an influx of new cards due to the new Hisuian Voltorb and Electrode.
-
Finish Duel Monsters era Yu-Gi-Oh collection, minus promos.
-
Finish Tomokazu Komiya collection. Missing several expensive promos, plus any new cards that are released throughout the year.
-
Start my “Mimic” collection. This is based on classic RPG monsters who disguise themselves as things like item chests or other interactable objects. Voltorb and Electrode are already included, but the other three are Foongus, Amoonguss, and Galarian Stunfisk.
-
Finish Vintage Digimon Holo ST cards
And thats it for my goals for the year!
First post after 2 years. Although I havent written, I have been following the forum. =) But its a good way to start again.
I didn’t write my goals for 2021, but so far I have accomplished.
- Base Set in Spanish - FINISHED
- Jungle in Spanish - FINISHED
- Fossil in Spanish - FINISHED
An for 2022 I would like to.
- Complete 1st Edition Jungle in Spanish: 58/64
- Complete 1st Edition Fossil in Spanish: 60/62
- Complete Vending series: 69/125
- Continue with a theme I called “Pokemon & Trainer are ready to battle”, in which pokemon and trainer appear in the card and they are ready to battle. The theme is really subjective, and I end adding cards I like those they are not in a battle pose. 47/134 (Thanks VMax Climax!).
- Pick some cards I like.
We’ll see how I do!
Ohh this is great! I love that idea, would be so awesome to see this collection if you are comfortable with showing pictures.
My goals for 2022:
-finish my bulbasaur japanese binder collection (i’m at 68%)
-maybe get a psa 9 bulba no rarity
