Hi everyone!
I recently started collecting cards in November and have been enjoying it since. I’m currently trying to complete a few master sets of Pokemon, specifically Bidoof, Torchic, Blaziken, Alolan Vulpix, and Snom. I’ve made quite a decent chunk of progress but I’ve got a lot more to go.
I’ve recently been following the VGC and it’s been exciting to watch. Can’t wait to watch Worlds this year.
Welcome to the forum! Be sure to post your collection for all of us to see!
here’s a page of my Bidoofs, though i am collecting both EN and JP cards. the big one that alludes me is Bidoof 12/30 from the XY Trainer Kit: Bisharp Deck. been looking for leads and didn’t find much aside from a post here that had a successful find. hopefully i can be just as lucky
Welcome to the fourum!
Welcome to the forum @hermitP . What a fun species Bidoof is to collect. You can see other’s species collections here:

I hope you enjoy the forum and collecting.
Welcome, @hermitP ! Glad to have you introduce yourself, and I hope you find this to be a helpful place in your species collecting journey! What’s great about niche collecting is that you can take it as far or as not as you want. =)
Welcome to the forum, if you could make a collection thread if you want
Welcome @hermitP ! I wish you luck on your collecting journey. I like the cards you have chosen to collect. Alolan Vulpix is a beautiful Pokemon.
Welcome! I’m also on the torchic hunt myself. If you’re ever interested in chatting/trading feel free to message
Welcome @hermitP! May I ask what lead you to those particular Pokemon for your collection?
Welcome! @hermitP
thanks! most of these pokemon i used during my playthroughs of the video games so i have an attachment to them haha
hello hello~! i’m starry and i’m new to pokemon tcg collecting!
i’ve been watching some youtubers who completed master sets and it inspired me to start collecting myself. i want to collect every card of my favorite pokemon so have been scouring the internet trying to figure out the best ways to compile my list. i’ve looked at a couple resources, but i figured creating my own list by looking through every set released would be the best way for me to be super thorough and also get me familiar with all the sets and card variations.
i’ve been painstakingly going through each set listed on pokellector.com and writing down all my favorites on a spreadsheet that i can create my list from (i love spreadsheets). i stumbled upon this site when i was trying to see if i could find a list of cameos and was surprised about how that thread was still active. figured i’d join this forum because i love creating lists and spreadsheets and contributing to those types of things.
my goal is to focus on collecting the english versions rn. my favorite pokemon is chikorita so i’m focusing on collecting chikorita first with some secondary goals of lapras and jirachi. tertiary goals are vulpix/alolan vulpix, dratini, and dragonair. (ik my list of pokemon to collect is already pretty long, but some of my favorites aren’t super popular so i’m hoping it won’t be too difficult)
eventually, i would like to collect pig-related pokemon (since it’s my favorite animal) so spoink, grumpig, tepig, pignite, emboar, lechonk, and oinkologne are on the list too (ik mankey and swinub are pig-related too but they don’t read “pig” enough for me to bother collecting them lol). i wanted to collect celebi, lucario, latias, and latios as well, but as i compiled the list i realized those might be too vast in quantity and too expensive for me to consider at this stage of my life.
i’ve never bought pokemon cards before (unless you count when i was a kid at a garage sale and i bought like 10 cards from a neighbor) so i’m a little nervous about it. i’m also not really familiar with how all the terms to describe cards are used either (like full art, special illustrated rares, etc.) currently, i’m living in japan so i’m considering going out to buy some cards but it feels more intimidating to buy here since my japanese is only at a barely conversational level. i think i would like to visit card shops and go to conventions and stuff once i’m back in the states because they look really fun!
anyway, sorry my first post is so long!! i’m kind of a yapper. however, i am really bad at checking notifications and this is the first website forum i’ve joined in a long while so apologies if i take forever to respond to anything.
hope everyone is having a good week <3
Very warm welcome to the forums @starry. Really amazing to have a new collector join in and your enthusiasm comes through your post. Species collecting really is a work of dedication and we have a lot of collectors here who are into that. I like that despite being new, you have a goal of the species you want to collect and how you would like to start with them. Usually, having a goal is the hard part for any new collector, so it is great to see you having a framework.
There is a lot of information on the forums and you can just use the search bar to find just about any topic, or you can also just ask. You can also check out some of these links which you may find helpful to get you started:
Species collectors also have dedicated threads to share, learn and help each other. You can also check it out:
Since you also mentioned you like spreadsheets, we have the most famous spreadsheet on E4 as well:
I wish you a lot of fun on your journey with collecting. Welcome again to the forums and also to the collecting hobby. Looking forward to hearing more of your stories about your journey and your collection as it progresses.
Cheers!
