hello hello~! iām starry and iām new to pokemon tcg collecting!
iāve been watching some youtubers who completed master sets and it inspired me to start collecting myself. i want to collect every card of my favorite pokemon so have been scouring the internet trying to figure out the best ways to compile my list. iāve looked at a couple resources, but i figured creating my own list by looking through every set released would be the best way for me to be super thorough and also get me familiar with all the sets and card variations.
iāve been painstakingly going through each set listed on pokellector.com and writing down all my favorites on a spreadsheet that i can create my list from (i love spreadsheets). i stumbled upon this site when i was trying to see if i could find a list of cameos and was surprised about how that thread was still active. figured iād join this forum because i love creating lists and spreadsheets and contributing to those types of things.
my goal is to focus on collecting the english versions rn. my favorite pokemon is chikorita so iām focusing on collecting chikorita first with some secondary goals of lapras and jirachi. tertiary goals are vulpix/alolan vulpix, dratini, and dragonair. (ik my list of pokemon to collect is already pretty long, but some of my favorites arenāt super popular so iām hoping it wonāt be too difficult)
eventually, i would like to collect pig-related pokemon (since itās my favorite animal) so spoink, grumpig, tepig, pignite, emboar, lechonk, and oinkologne are on the list too (ik mankey and swinub are pig-related too but they donāt read āpigā enough for me to bother collecting them lol). i wanted to collect celebi, lucario, latias, and latios as well, but as i compiled the list i realized those might be too vast in quantity and too expensive for me to consider at this stage of my life.
iāve never bought pokemon cards before (unless you count when i was a kid at a garage sale and i bought like 10 cards from a neighbor) so iām a little nervous about it. iām also not really familiar with how all the terms to describe cards are used either (like full art, special illustrated rares, etc.) currently, iām living in japan so iām considering going out to buy some cards but it feels more intimidating to buy here since my japanese is only at a barely conversational level. i think i would like to visit card shops and go to conventions and stuff once iām back in the states because they look really fun!
anyway, sorry my first post is so long!! iām kind of a yapper. however, i am really bad at checking notifications and this is the first website forum iāve joined in a long while so apologies if i take forever to respond to anything.
hope everyone is having a good week <3
