There’s much easier ways to offload crypto, just use a Nexo debit card and you even get cashback on the purchase, paying a 18k premium is insane.
I’m not saying it’s rational. Sometimes people with a lot of money don’t care about saving $18,000. To wealthy people, that amount is a rounding error.
Or perhaps it was from someone outside of Pokemon (e.g., sports, fine art, etc.) who had no clue that a cheaper copy was listed on eBay.
Or perhaps it was necessary to transact in this way due to limitations in one’s country.
I really don’t know, but the bottom line is that spending is not often rational. Especially on high-value items.

Also if you in that high of a tax bracket to drop 29k, you’d already be paying 8-12k in taxes depending on how long you holding it. Rather let the accountant figure out than worry about it on the front end. Lol
