THE Great Grading Results Thread

I take 3-5 seconds to look at each card when submitting… Either i was taxed or missed a surface/crease… time is money.

Got some pretty nice grading results these last few months. Most of the PSA mid era reverses are super low pop (Mudkip- pop 5, torchic - pop 8, Dratinis are <30). Looking forward to getting more mid era reverse/stamps

And I got this guy from cracking a CGC 10

I stop grading vintage cause the graders are seeing 100,000’s of ultra modern cards that are so crispy, when a grader sees vintage. Vintage looks Near mint at best.

we have bulk at 100% Gem Mint sometimes. There is no way vintage would get Gem mint if a vintage runs thru after our submissions

Following up as promised. I have the slab in hand annnnndddd you are mostly right. Most of these are indeed super faint marks on the holo that can only be seen at certain angles and in bright light. I think a few are marks on the slab but thats pretty irrelevant.

I still contend that this should be a 9, and I’ll give it another shot, especially when considering the premium on a 9 vs an 8. The dream of a 10 is probably dead, but never say never!

Absolutely shagged by CGC.

Happy with the pika as I just wanted it as AU (it’s like a PSA 7)

But the zard was a new cert PSA 9. Basically flawless beside a tiny dot on the top right back corner.

CGC either made a mistake with the order OR thought it didn’t reach the 9 minimum card grade i put on it.

I have a 95% hit rate with BGS, and I don’t think CGC is a harsher grader.

Needless to say I’ll be cracking this.

Damn, it’s off center on the back but otherwise looks super clean.

Yeah but not OC not to 9.5 even at BGS imo!

Win some, lose some I guess haha.

Was really hoping for standard gem 10 tbh as I’ve seen CGC 9.5s with quite a bit of edge wear.

I feel your pain. I sent my PSA 9 Fan Club Porygon to CGC and it came back a 7. Sent to PSA couple weeks ago. Idk what CGC sees sometimes

So even with a dot, it’ll still get a 9? Interesting…

Dear Vert,

I infer by your above response that you are looking to poignantly call attention to the fact that earlier today you stated that an obstruction dot would drop a grade down to a 9, but were informed that this may not be the case.

In this installment of the Elite Fourum :trade_mark:, the Spanish charizard enjoyer has stated that a card with a dot was graded a 9 possibly in part due to a dot. “Oh, the irony!” young Vert exclaimed. “This is what I stated earlier, but was informed I was incorrect!”

In the aforementioned printer obstruction thread, you also stated that all three grading companies were the same, and choosing one is a matter of personal preference. I regret to inform you that this is not the case, PSA, CGC, and BGS have different grading standards and may approach different defects/artifacts differently. That detracted from your aforementioned point that it would be dropped to a 9.

What I am taking as the moral of the story (s/o Aesop), is that making definitive statements, or answering questions in areas where you don’t have experience, isn’t necessarily helpful to the poster, and isn’t helpful to you as you learn.

While grading has objective criterion, they can be applied somewhat subjectively, and there may be consistent history to how one grading company typically treats certain characteristics (printer obstructions, silvering, etc).

Some of the most valuable members on this forum don’t post often, but when they do, it’s to learn, share an opinion, or contribute something factual where they have relevant experience from their collecting journey. Or post super dank memes. Posts read is as wonderful a metric as posts made.

With esteem,
William

Odd eh? All my other CGC cards have been over graded. I wonder if they look at autos differently. Hopefully jsa didn’t bend it.

Is it possible it was a human error maybe?
