There are most likely 9 Illustrators as the drawing vontest was held on 3 different dates… I guess the 1st place winner of each contest got his artwork on a card… I know of 2 other illustrators that are still in japan!
I have images of eight different illustrator cards. I will have to check the holo pattern on this one when I get home. It looks a bit familiar. I always thought there were 12 but I have no idea. I sincerely hope this card does not go the way of the birthday pikachu. My best guess is that a lot are appearing due to the amount of publicity it’s getting.
This one looks kind of similar in holo pattern to the one in Japan that Gerald had showed us. It’s really hard to compare holo patterns though as the same card looks different from different angles
I have to agree. The holo orbs on the bottom right of the illustration and above the head are a pretty close match…but we can’t be 100% without more images.
Well there are 9 of the TMB’s and SSB’s each, so the Illustrator may very well be on par with them. Then again, how the heck will we know with that card!!
Either way, it’s not simply a game of numbers. The Illustrator is illustrious, recognizable, and legendary and that has a heavy impact on the value.
IF you go into the Trainer mag that touches on the TMB/SSB regional tournaments (challenge road '99), it confirms that two of the 7 tournaments were two day tournaments with separate winners. It has pictures of the top 3 from all nine events, all of which won the cards
It also confirms that the 1999 Tropical wind card was distributed to top 10 from the TMB Challenge Road events. Therefore I propose that 90 Tropical wind cards were printed.
I’m working on an article that goes over everything I’ve learned this summer. I’ve done a lot of research and translation
