I’ve recently re-watched the second movie after we were talking about it in Discord a few days prior. Was pretty nostalgic.

Where did you see it the first time?

My first time was winter 2000/2001 with my friends in the old, dilapidated cinema/town hall in the small town I lived in at the time. I remember bombarding one of my older female friends with data about the Pokemon on the screen when they were on the boat, probably bored her to death but I couldn’t contain myself in the beginning there, haha. Seeing this the first time was like a drug, my first Pokemon movie experience with proper sound and on a proper screen. If I remember correctly, I saw this movie a month or two before we got Neo Genesis in stores, so some of the species like Lugia and Slowking were mostly new to us.

I watched it for the first time in cinemas as well. I’m not entire sure, but the second Pokémon movie might even be the first time I went to cinemas as a kid ever. Can’t remember too much of watching the movie itself to be completely honest, but I do defintely remember that we received four sealed Moltres promos (one for each of us; me, my little brother, and my parents). I traded one of my Moltres with another kid for a Zapdos and my little brother one for an Articuno, before the movie started. I especially liked the Moltres of the three, which still holds true today, since it’s my favorite artwork of all Pokémon TCG cards. and I have a small collection dedicated to it (see my signature below) - currently only missing the sealed Swedish variant to complete it.

I’m not sure anymore whether we already had Neo products when I saw the movie, but most of the Pokémon were indeed also new to me. I remember being more impressed by the Donphan at the start of the movie than the talking Lugia or Slowking, though.

I also still remember in the Pichu Bros short before the movie, that Ash mentioned he’s together with Pikachu for 1 year exactly. I kinda regret not keeping better track of these type of mentions when I watched all the anime episodes and movies over the years. I’m pretty sure Ash would be ~16 if we add all the mentioned time-frames together (e.g. there were a couple months Ash had to wait between getting his eight badges and the tournament during the first season; there was one episode where he mentioned knowing Bulbasaur, Squirtle, etc. for a couple of years now; etc.) - and then there are a lot of other non-mentioned dates obviously. Ah well, we all know Ash is despite that forever 10.

This was really cool, an interview with Egawa and Sato. They talk a little about their methods, and comment on their own and each other’s art.

I’ve never collected a single artists cards before, but it seems like a great time to start one with Kanda

I haven’t seen anyone mention this card here before. I came across it today and was sort of blown away. It’s just abstract enough to promote a sense of wonder, yet has enough realism to seem familiar. Absolutely beautiful!
