So, IDK if this is the right place to share this…
When I can’t sleep, I work on these. Just a bit at a time. This one turned out really smooth, and I swear, it’s making me like Himeno even more… There’s just… something… about it…
The only one to rival Arita, Masago and Himeno in my book, it’s insane how many god tier artworks he’s made. And like you say, very varied. His portion of Aquapolis easily ranks as one of the grandest bodies of work in the entire hobby:
Unfortunately Kusajima peaked really early, I think I love the E-series the most! Past EX-series their art doesn’t do much for me (during and before I think Kusajima is probably on par with Arita). It’s also interesting how Kusajima doesn’t really have a defined artstyle, but there are similarities among cards from the same era. But I’ll take the opportunity to share more amazing examples of their art!
The soft and organic lines in this art totally work with the underwater composition, this artwork pulls me into the world of Pokémon - imho the best tentacruel card out there.
For my namesake set, the Alakazam! The yellow and purple of the card and the art make this card pop. The near-symmetry, and calm demeanor of Alakazam make it really stand out. It works so well with the soft shading/highlighting and the subtle holo.
Completely agreed. It’s funny, some arts in my collection I totally ignored, but now that I’m filming them all in ultra HD, I 'm finding gems that I’d never noticed before.
After they did that Bronzong/Jasmine Alternate art he is one of my favorite illustrators already (their non-Pokémon art work is amazing as well). I’m glad, we get the first non-metal type with Ralts.
4 cards in total, only one of them good…what the fuck, Pokemon? As if 32 base speed with Shell Smash isn’t insulting enough. This Cretaceous paragon of great Unova design deserves better!
