I am a big fan of Komiya-san his artwork, I have a binder of at least every card artwork released from him (except for the new years present jumbo I still need to obtain…
)
I sometimes talk to Komiya-san and I want to share some of the stories of the cards he illustrated, he told me these stories personally. I have tried to translate it as best as I could, since his English is not the best and my Japanese skill is also not the best.
Slowpoke - Lost Thunder
In this illustration, Slowpoke lives in a cave (I think this could be the Slowpoke Well) without it’s favorite food available.
Since the white part of it’s tail is very sweet and grows back again, this Slowpoke is preparing to eat it’s Slowpoke tail so he can survive.

Eevee & Snorlax-GX - SM169
"The food that the person is eating looks more delicious than the given food.
Eevee thought so, and acted obediently.
Snorlax immediately prepared for the defense.
They swing their hands to attack, I captured this moment."

Salazzle - Sword & Shield (Base set)
This card illustrates Salazzle (the queen) punishing a Salandit (a slave) that disobeyed the queen her absolute orders.
The queen stands up from the marble chair and she struck the slave with a beautiful swing equal to Barry Bonds hitting a home run.
The slaves around her were surprised and scared hidden behind the marble chair.
*The Pokédex entry also confirms this story:
“It punishes Salandit that couldn’t bring it food with a fierce slap of its flame-spewing palm.”*

I hope you enjoyed reading the story behind some of his cards!
