From the video they released about how [English] cards were made, they were given those files but made their own interpretation of the textures to print. That was before the acquisition though, so hopefully we see more changes follow through in line with JP and SEA card quality

Pokemon recently increased the rate. Distributors increased their prices, I think there was a thread about it awhile ago.
As for boxes going for $100ish, it’s really l only sets that are the extremely popular and/or high hit potential. Also supply has greatly improved since 2020. I’m getting more of my orders fulfilled than 1-3 years ago. And my distributor recently is able to communicate much more with Pokémon, which is nice as they can relay if they need more product!
I’m sorry to ask such a low effort question (as it may seem) - but is there a directory for the best JPN sites to purchase from aside from Amazon with a proxy? I’ve seen some Vstar listed at $80 usd and am really on the fence if I should hold out for my target $60 or just jump to what I wanted to have for this set. I’ve read a lot about the cycle on these sets as compared to other HC sets, but the other sets, in my opinion, don’t even come close to comparing to this set.

i’m sure there are other options, but i’ve had luck ordering a few boxes from mercarijp. just make sure they’re sealed (you’ll have to pay a little more for this). i was able to get three boxes for just under 200$

Curious as well – I know the Buyee extension supports some sites that aren’t immediately apparent in their resources.
Never used Mercari but know it’s a viable option. I got my boxes from Amazon JPN resellers at 9000 yen apiece and it looks like I got pretty lucky in comparison to where things are right now. They’ll get back down to that price soon, but it’s a matter of time/patience in your case.

1st two boxes I opened were a blast, but I would rate average pulls. Got none of my chase cards. Glad I decided to open one more, the 3rd box gave me three of the few cards I’ve been hoping for:
Previously Vmax Climax was my favorite set to open, but this one was even more fun!

The classic argument against “Why is X product selling above msrp >:(” is ask if they complain about english being sold below msrp

For people who are opening Vstar universe does every reverse have those print lines or is it just me 
its such a nice reverse its a shame the print quality isn’t a bit better
i see people complain when english is sold at msrp, saying it is overpriced

i didn’t notice print lines on mine actually. maybe its just that the reverses from this year’s enhanced sets (dark phantasma, etc) were so prominent
