QotD: What is your “Never in a million years” card that even if you had the money, you wouldn’t buy?

Most cgi cards. Most trophy cards, especially those that are just an item like the necklaces and keys and whatever else there are (the pokemon shadow in the background doesn’t do it for me either). Most cards past e series (although a lot of them are really nice!).

Literally any Poncho

Overpriced, high print.

If they were cheaper, then sure.

So it’s only about the principle then? This QotD states:

And you state you wouldn’t mind buying them if they were cheaper, even if you had an unlimited amount of money to spend on Pokémon TCG cards?

So the only reason you wouldn’t buy them, even if you were a billionaire collector, is because they’re too expensive for what they are, and you refuse based on that principle?
Somewhat admirable I guess, in a way. You don’t want to be one of the people that keep the current prices alive by buying a copy for the current high price, even if money wouldn’t be an issue for you personally in this hypnotical situation. Just to help slightly correct the market for everyone. I can respect it.

I must admit I’ve always been a bit selfish in that regard personally, regarding the ‘how much difference is one person going to make overall’.
To give a non-Pokémon example: I shower too long, even though I know it’s bad for the environment. Long showers takes my minds of things, and I also like the hot (or cold in the Summer) water. :person_shrugging: No matter how bad it is for the environment, even during very hot Summers when water-reserves are low, I likely would still shower too long tbch.
(FWIW, I do try to compensate with other stuff, like combining multiple days into one dishwasher run (assuming recipes the next day don’t need a currently dirty frying pan); running my dishwasher and wash-machine always on eco, even if it takes 3-4 hours; having a vegetarian meal at least once every two weeks, even though I like meat during dinner; putting the heater slightly lower than I’d sometimes like in my house/car in the Winter; etc.)

You know what, just ignore this, lol.. Your “If they were cheaper, I would buy them.” comment with theoretically unlimited money just made me think all over the place for a moment.

Well yeah haha, maybe it’s just how I’m wired but even if I had unlimited money I probably wouldnt want to buy stuff when they are overvalued.

I’ve been wanting to pick them up for a while but they are probably one of the most manipulated cards price-wise in the hobby.

I’ll admit I probably mis-read the thread title.

I feel like it can be interpret in more than one way tbh. :person_shrugging: And most comments seem to interpret it similar to you.

Usually in Pokémon, the term ‘unlimited’ is simply used for cards that are not 1st edition, so both ©1999 and ©1999-2000 are two versions of ‘unlimited Base Sets’. :person_shrugging: Then again, Shadowless would be considered unlimited as well by those rules, and usually it isn’t.

As discussed in this thread: Better Name for Unlimited?, ‘unlimited’ has always been a weird term. Especially when you consider that most unlimited edition Japanese sets are very limited and short-printed compared to their 1st edition counterparts, haha. And they aren’t exactly still printing and releasing Base Set cards anymore in 2025.

I agree! I suppose I should of specified the exact print rather than using the umbrella term of “unlimited”
