There’s a lot of different kinds of energy in the collecting space today: positive, negative, upset, excited, water, you name it.
Going with that theme, I will post an energy type, and you post your favorite card of that energy type. Feel free to include why you enjoy the card! The post with the most likes after an appropriate amount of time will win bragging rights and hopefully a badge.
Limit your entries to one card per post, and three posts per person max. Please write out the card and set name in text in addition to the image posted for posterity in case images break.
If people enjoy this, I’ll keep it going for additional energy types. As it’s summer in the northern hemisphere where I live, and the world revolves around me, we’ll start with FIRE.
Fav Pokemon + fav illustration of it. Ho-oh is meant to be a majestic phoenix - a once-in-a-lifetime encounter and a symbol of rebirth. Few official artworks capture its radiance as well as its original depiction by Kimiya Masago. I absolutely love the rainbow colours, the deep shade of red in its plumage and the feathers coming off as Ho-oh stops mid flight. It’s my favourite card, period.
A classic. The perfect embodiment of fire, a banger cosmo holo-reverse which is always a joy for the eyes, and a great sugimori artwork for us vintage lovers. Bonus, I love the neo-era layout.
I truly enjoy black star promos, and this card isn’t an exception: it’s super cheap and should be included in every Pokemon collection, graded or not!
But what my favorite Fire-Type card would be after this Moltres promo, I’m not sure. Will see and edit in a moment. Nvm, too many amazing ones, and can’t really choose between them.. Loads of amazing Ho-Oh cards; Flareon; Charmeleon; Ponyta; etc.
Also, I never realized how many banger artworks Ponyta has, especially for the SwSh/SV eras.
Since the theme is fire, it is absolutely fitting to include the card in which Kusajima got absolutely cooking.
This is by far my favorite of their work. The dynamic artwork gives you a feeling that Typholsion is a absolute juggernaut and nothing can stop it when it is on a fiery path. You can even see how intense and determined Typholsion looks in this card. Just an overall amazing artwork and a promo card as well.
After researching & posting the article The Black Flame Ninetales five years a go & with the help of this wonderful community it was recognised as an official variant by CGC and then everywhere else after.
I’m really proud to have made a lasting impact on the Pokémon TCG community and grateful to the fellow collectors at efour who helped. It will always hold a special place in my collection and memories.
Corrected Blaine’s Charizard from Gym Challenge. Loved that it came out as an error and they fixed it later. Remember looking through other kids collections to see if t hey had the elusive correction back in the day
I’m gonna cheat a little and go with an entire evolution line. The Gardevoir from Dragon Frontiers is IMMEDIATELY the first card that comes to mind when I think fire type.
I just looked through 100 sets of cards to review all the fire types. I narrowed it down to about 20, then again to 7, and then 4. After that they are all very different but I think my favorite will have to be Flareon V. Its fiery but very cute and cozy feeling.
The holo always reflects a blend of color that emphasizes the artwork (yellow/green in this pic), and Charmander’s features are drawn ambiguously: affection or sadness?
I suppose I’ll break the rules a little and post the other top contenders for me.
I am generally an optimistic person so when I think Fire, not only do I think about literal flames but the energy of fire and intensity, personally I also like the subject matter to be optimistic. Due to that my 3/4th place cards:
Team Magmas Camerupt. This card has some intense fire or possibly explosion going on with such heat that its looking like it could be melting stone. I like to think it was during a battle with team aqua that things went sideways and team magmas grunts’ loyal Camerupt came to their rescue. Something about the absurdity and manga style puts this one in the top for me.
The other that Im breaking the rules for has a surprising amount of good looking cards for being a new pokemon.
Chi-yu Ive found has some banger art but none greater than this Chi-yu ex. The way the light is breaking through the trees above the water surface while a forest of growth is still beneath the water feels breathtaking. The Pokemon looks absolutely divine in this rendition.
Last post for this topic, in a totally different vibe, a card that oozes heat and flame, the wickedness of fire as well as intensity and strength,
Charizard VMAX. Formed of flames, massive scale, and back to a classic dragon style head breathing fire. For fire intesity, this is the top card for me… just ignore the dadbod its got (thats probably why its 2nd place for me).
If I can’t choose Neo Revelation Ho-Oh (holo bleed variant), I will go for Torchic . Such an adorable and playful depiction of Torchic… before it becomes fire thighs.
Please enjoy my Torchic reaching for a god-tier swirl.
