In Japan, the government’s fiscal year is from the 1st April to 31st March.
We still have a long wait ahead of us, unless they decide to hoodwink us and actually announce it in June. I highly doubt that to be the case though.

that fact that they said this shows that it’s probably in development already.
It has most likely been in development for many, many years already. At least they’ve acknowledged this though and I hope they hold up their time scale from now on.
It’s very likely been in development for the past few years. In my opinion it shows that development is more or less almost finished. Looking forward to it, although it probably means they will announce more details by the end of 2024 or beginning of 2025.
I’m excited that they finally acknowledged that there will be a successor. I wonder what they’re going to call it
Successor already?! Im still using my Advance sp more regularly. Do people have issues with the switch that it needs a successor?
i would like to believe that PLZA will release on the new console, but my guess is it’ll release on the current switch and in holiday 2025, we will get some sort of remake or spinoff game (not gen 10) on the new console.
it’s just has extremely outdated components. there has been a lot of highly efficient cpu/gpu developments over the last 10 years
I was thinking this but I can’t believe it’s already been 9 years. The Switch still feels kinda new to me. Time moves different after 30 it still feels like a pretty versatile console, though I do have the updated version.
Also, not to derail the thread but does anyone have Super Mario Bros Wonder? Wanted to get it for me and the Mrs to play together cos it looks really fun.
Yes! I can’t recommend it enough. It is one of the best 2D Mario games
Indeed, I have no idea about a computers/consoles GPU, CPU, CGC, PSA but I do know that 10 years unchanged in the tech industry is as astonishing as it is ridiculous.
I absolutely love the Switch, personally I wouldn’t change it other than level it up a great deal where they can.
First Mario game I have completed 100%. Really cute and fun game. Multiplayer works better in the early game. Once you get towards the final stages it can be a lot of dragging each other to deaths
There are so many problems with the switch (even if I love it):
Outdated processor
Can only run a number of games with 30 fps
It’s classified as a current gen console instead of a next gen
OLED has burn-in (classic of course)
There’s a lot more that I’ve probably forgotten
What does that even mean? How is that an issue?
Ok, obviously im not up to date on modern but most of these things sound like they can be fixed with minimal hardware changes. I guess I take the idea of a successor meaning a need for new hardware design, so new game physical design, which means buying everything again. Ive had a switch for around 4yrs but ive probably put less than 50hrs of game time on it in that time, so i really dont see the need for the next step and Im bummed the industry will again be moving on with me needing to catch up.
I guess its great news for those who want it though.
next gen consoles are PS5 and xbox series X
current gen is nintendo switch, playstation 4, and xbox 1 X/S
the nintendo switch is one of the weakest current gens, and it would need a massive revamp to get on PS5 and Xbox level.
Let’s go!
Yup, this is exactly why I didn’t buy a Switch yet. I’m just too spoiled by my PC performance. Even 60FPS is starting to feel slow to me now, depending on the type of game I’m playing and so 30FPS is just too slow now.
I miss the glory days of my N64, PS1/PS2 and GBA where I didn’t think of these issues
It’s just a way of classifying the age of consoles. Basically what Vertemes means is that the Switch is not up to the same standard as a PS5 or Xbox Series X. Hell, the Switch is outperformed by the PS4. But I don’t think most people are playing the Switch based on it’s performance anyway. The Switch doesn’t even support 4K resolution on a screen like the other consoles can.
I don’t know much about game development but I think one of the big issues is that the older a console gets, the harder it becomes to develop games that run well on that console. Especially for games that come out on multiple platforms.
Here is a quick example I found of MotoGP 24 being played on a Switch compared to a PS5
In some cases, like the PS4 Pro which was an upgrade to the PS4, some minor enhancements were made that improved gameplay. I think for the Switch it needs more than some minor enhancements to have modern games run well on it. The enhancements it would need would probably mean that the console itself needs to change more to be able to handle the increase in heat produced by the upgraded equipment.
This is definitely possible but I want to remain optimistic that it will function similar to the 3DS. The 3DS is able to play both 3DS and DS games using the same game slot. I think that you’ll still be able to use your Switch for a while before needing to upgrade
Sorry for the long winded response, I just drank my morning coffee
I appreciate the response, thank you for being clear with why i am out of touch in a very positive way
Yeah its been outdated hardware since it released which has underperformed and detracted from many first party and exclusive experiences
Man im getting old because my first thought was “already?”
Really doesnt feel like 9 or however many years. Im still rocking our switch lite, never really had any problems with it other than stick drift. Our playstation and xbox are much faster but i mean i always kind of expected that.
