So to be clear, you are expecting a regular Charizard V and Charizard VMax in the Darkness set, just not the Hyper Rare Rainbow Vmax version or a Full Art V version?
They would definitely be breaking precedent if these were released in English but part of me would still be surprised if we didn’t get them as sets cards eventually (not in Darkness Ablaze). There’s just such a clear financial incentive for them to do so and companies like money. If anything, I’m a touch surprised they chose Charizard as the promo this time around since there’s plenty of choices that wouldn’t compromise their sales here.
I personally think we won’t see these artworks in English at all based on those previous semi-trophy releases, but that’s just my 2c though.
I do see there are a Charizard V and Charizard VMAX in the upcoming Darkness Ablaze set, but those are the Charizard with a different artwork from the Charizard VMAX Starter Set. EDIT: Actually the Charizard VMAX seems to be the same artwork as the Hyper Rare I now notice…
Of course there is always a small chance that TPC smells money. But I deem the chance of an English release for these two cards extremely small; and they also would have smelled money with those Mewtwo. I can’t predict the future however, so feel free to believe whatever you want to believe.
600 extra Charizard VMAX and 600 Charizard V will be distributed by a lottery to people who held a sealed tournament at home with friends & family and sent their results and proof of purchase by mail.
As for the shop tournaments, they removed the option for last-minute registration, and you can only register for one tournament (instead of the previous four).
They’re considering adding extra shop events, and also mentioned they might have to cancel them depending on the global health situation.
That is Shintaro Ito for the ones who don’t know, a very famous player in Japan and in the PTCG world. Won Worlds 2016, surprised everybody with an original deck( Mega Audino EX). He deserves it!
It was being officially streamed by TPC yesterday, since it was the first ever tournament:
For the record, I still shit on them for looking terribly bland IMO. Nevertheless I’m very excited to watch the price development of the first really rare Charizard card. I’d be surprised if it ever sells below 3k - and I guess it’ll get more expensive really quickly from there.
The first Charizard VMAX HR has sold for over $4k. The buylist prices for these cards from Japanese card shops are 370k yen for the VMAX and 60k yen for the regular V.
The new English holiday set has been revealed as “Champion’s Path” and the Elite Trainer Box features Charizard VMAX. This strongly suggests that Charizard VMAX will be in the set, perhaps as a hyper rare considering the regular VMAX is in Darkness Ablaze. The ETB will come with a full art Charizard V promo, likely the full art V distributed as a winner copy here.
