My personal MtG x Pokemon crossover - got some Magic the Gathering artists to draw Pokemon versions of their cards!

I love Nana Qi 's Archangel Avacyn! Such a great classic story telling style.

This is also very well done. She captured the essence of Bulbasaur’s face very well.

EDIT: Well, I wrote essentially the same thing as mrbubbles.

Beautiful Collection. It inspires me to try another Pokémon in the style of another artist.

Ok, final part update for this month! With this update we are only one card (Sandslash) away from finishing it all!

Last week I got up at 4:30am for a trip to SCG Baltimore. The primary reason was to get some more sketches from Mark Tedin. Tedin’s line tends to fill up as soon as he opens at the show, and if you’re just 5 minutes late you might not get a sketch til 3pm. So after a 2 hour Amtrak trip, I was able to get the below!

Should be some sort of shellfish eh? Wonder what it might be…

It’s Omastar, draining away someone’s mana! Most importantly this knocked out one of the last 151 missing spots.

I stayed one night and on Saturday, I was mercifully able to sleep til 7am, as the show opened at 8am so I just barely had time for breakfast before entering Tedin’s line again. This time, I did better as I was second in line!

Urza is one of the classic protagonists in MTG and is also known for building big, deadly robots. Who could fit…

Here he is controlling Metagross! My sleepless nights were worth it.

I was also able to get some commissions from other artists.

This one you can probably guess right? haha.

Scott Kirschner also did Kabutops earlier in this series! HIs Kabuto kinda reminds of an animated Darth Vader helmet haha.

Steve Prescott is another new artist I met at the show.

Hmm a big metallic steel wurm huh?

It’s Steelix! He did this within a half hour! Quality and fast work.

RK Post returns with 2 new ones. Here’s one of his personal favorite.

Maybe Sudowoodo isn’t a real tree, but he’s nurturing them at least here.

Well there’s a lot of angry Pokemon in the first 151, but only one left that I needed…

It’s Fearow!

Lastly, this one was not from SCG, but actually an MTG artist who saw my videos on Tiktok and reached out! Kev Fang!

He has a cool grotesque style that I thought could evoke Gen 1 Golbat’s sprite really well.

And just like that we’re just waiting for Sandslash now! I could use ideas on how to display all 151 of these baddies in a case, so please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Also if you are interested in a short recap of my whole trip to Baltimore, I have a Youtube short here.

That Metagross art is phenomenal. Truly. I also think it is a battle between Urza and Metagross since the Pokemon is known to be super smart and having 4 brains. So wont be easy!

Awesome update as always. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers!

I don’t know how I have taken this long to look through this topic, but these cards are pure beauty. Thank you for sharing! I absolutely love these cards.

How many mtg x poki cards do you have total?
This has been an incredible and unique journey to watch, so many incredible concepts brought to life.

Slightly less than the 151 of Kanto, as there’s a few where I put 2-3 into a single card. I think its around 130 total. I don’t really want to think about the cost haha.

I admire your dedication,
I think I know the cost already…
priceless.

Happy Thanksgiving to those in the States. Hope you were able to get your hands on some Pokemon Black Friday deals like the Gamestop UPC (I was not  ). Here is the November artist proofs update, which comes with the major announcement that I’ve now completed the first 151 Pokemon! :pokeball: And we did it under the 2 year mark from the first of these posts  .

Without further ado:

We start things off with Eric Deschamps, who previously did a nice Regirock. I decided to get another AP from him, this time with an Igglybuff performing minimize to match the Diminish art. He is also a Pokemon Go player and I added his FC during the SGC event.

This one isn’t strictly in any of my Kanto/Johto collecting lanes, but as an MTG Player Quest for the Holy Relic used to be one of my favorite equipment decks, so I really wanted to get something related to that art. The art is vaguely treasure related, so I asked Greg Staples to add a Gimmighoul.

This update actually knocks out 2 of the 3 Johto starter final evolutions. I really like this fierce Typhlosion from Dan Scott. This was actually bought from another collector and not directly commissioned by me.

The next one you might not guess immediately, but…

Speaking of Buts, Drew Tucker did this amazing Feraligatr. For those who know, this is actually a tongue in cheek reference to Feraligatr’s 3rd generation back sprite, which many users mistook for a large behind!

You might already be able to guess what the next one is from the shape.

Yep, it’s attack mode Deoxys! By Jeanne D’Angelo. Her colors are really superb.

Jeanne also had the honor of finishing the last piece of the 151 that I was missing.

With that, it’s a wrap on the original 151. Does that mean I’ll stop collecting? No, not really. I’m still going to slowly make my way through Johto and other regions. The pace will slow as it may be when inspiration strikes though, so this could be the last regular update for a while. I’ll post again when I figure out a good way to display the 151, and maybe take some high-res scans along the way. Thank you all for following me through my MTG adventure, and I hope you’ll get your own Pokemon APs in the future  !

Oh P.S., I plan to do a live stream Q&A session about MTG artist proofs in general (what they are, what’s their market value, how to get them, how to meet artists etc), and perhaps show off a few pieces, this Sunday 9pm EST on my Youtube channel. Please drop by and say hi if you can!

Is there any way for you to get a Rayquaza one done yet? If so, how can I request one?

Haven’t gotten that far yet, but I imagine most any of the artists I’ve posted in the thread so far can do one for you!

Fun fact I actually tried getting mega Rayquaza from a Japanese MTG artist but his agent refused. They’re more strict over there.

I’m only now catching up with posts from past weeks so i have a lot to admire here. First of all big congrats on finishing your original goal! Like i’ve said a thousand times this has been the most unique and one of the most interesting an pleasant joutney’s to follow. Really looking forward to seeing how you end up displaying them and how the johto collection continues to shape up!

As others too have already praised i absolutely love everything by Nene Thomas here! And as usual there were a good bunch of other gems too, i especially liked kakuna, victreebel and golbat, and seeing the feraligatr and realising what it was made me actually burst out in laughter while sitting in a bus :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: i love everything about this thread

An MTG related update, again by a Pokemon card artist. I finally got though Sumiyoshi Kizuki’s commission queue, and had her put in a few MTG references in my commisions. See if you can spot them

also a reminder that I’ll do a stream on my YouTube later at 9:30pm est today to discuss artist proofs, their origin and how you can get your own.
