Today I have for you… Charizard’s Chonky little cousin - Dragonite :joy:
Thus completing my series of Dratini (choking Charmander), Dragonair and now this one :art::grin:

I hope you like it, I love how these blues and oranges work together in harmony.
Also one of the most old-school Ken Sugimori versions I could find, as always.

Everyone should see the amazing Venusaur too. Share the love! If you EVER decided to paint the other ones in this evolution line with Erica’s bulbasaur and Ivysaur I would be so grateful!

Here’s a good opportunity to share an example of, in my opinion, an incomplete / less successful attempt.

Quick background - one of my newer favorite pokemon is actually Milotic! I love everything about it (and also Feebas! :joy:)
I guess I have a strong bias towards dragon pokemon.

So here’s an initial attempt at Milotic. The challenge was that I wanted to invent the pose fully, and ended up with a lack of clarity in the concept.
It’s supposed to be doing some kind of a tail slam, but it’s not clear enough and the silver “shine” doesn’t read well.

I plan on doing another iteration in the near future, or simply go with basing it on an existing artwork more closely.
Invention IS a big challenge!

And as a bonus, here are some of the Dragonite stages, to show you more of what my process looks like.

Liron has me hooked on trying watercolors… that combined with Ken Sugimori has me swirling. This is my third one now. Maybe Liron will upgrade it for us!

I have always been more of a drawing illustrator but he too has made me dig out my watercolor case out of the closet and bust out the set. Maybe I’ll show one of mine here too. With Liron’s blessing of course :grin:
