First Pull and/or Memorable Card?

Great discussion topic! Of course I love all my cards but these are some of my memorable ones:

I started being aware of the Pokemon phenomenon during the initial Base Set. But maybe because I was too young with not much money to spend on buying booster packs during Base Set, it didn’t really leave much impression on me as compared to the EX era (3rd gen). As a teenager during the EX era, I remembered casual battling with my friends using the Salamence Delta Species card (I was horrible in playing, lol) and started developing an appreciation for the Delta Species Pokemon type and its art.

When I re-entered the Pokemon hobby again in 2017/18, I remembered opening an Ancient Origins pack and pulled the Primal Kyogre EX. As someone that have not seen a Pokemon card for a long time, the gold border looks dope and I ended up going down the rabbit hole to try to collect the other gold cards.

The Mewtwo was pulled from my Shining Legends ETB. I remembered being excited for the Shining Legends set as it was the return of Shining Pokemon after a long time and pulling the Mewtwo GX was pretty cool.

The Suicune is not a pull - it was my Christmas present from a friend. Very memorable as Pokemon Crystal was the first game I played.

I know this wasn’t the first pack I ever opened. possibly the second, I think a blastoise art base pack was the first. but this is the oldest memory I have of a card being pulled out of a pack. I dont remember what the rare or anything card in the pack was, but for some reason this one made in an impression on me. I think my dad came home one night late after work with a booster pack each for me and my siblings and we just sat around the living room and opened them together while watching rugrats or something. and my sister pulled a non-holo flareon I also remember.

Mine had to be the Latios EX from plasma freeze. First ultra rare, do not have it anymore sadly.

My first cards were from a yardsale when I was around 5-7. I only had a handful, but I would stare at those cards forever just enjoying the artwork. I would also “battle” myself by throwing them down in the hallway and yelling out the attacks (I was an only child). My favorite card I owned was the fossil Zapdos with the evolution box error -I thought it must be the rarest thing ever because of the error, and I showed that card off to everyone.

My cousin had a birthday around this time, and I wanted to give her something really special as a present, so… I gave her my cherished Zapdos. She loved it, but after that I pretty much stopped caring about Pokémon, and moved on to other things.

A couple years later, when I was around 9-10, a friend made me watch Lucario and The Mystery of Mew, and suddenly I was obsessed with Pokémon. I borrowed the movie from her for a week and watched it every single night. I wanted to start collecting the cards again, but sadly, my original cards had gotten lost at somepoint and I never was able to find them.

One day I was over my cousin’s house, and my aunt was doing some cleaning and had happened to find my cousin’s huge old collection of Pokémon cards. She wasn’t into them anymore, so I asked if I could have them. She gave them to me, and I remember being so happy while going through them. I remembered how I had given her my Zapdos card years prior, and excitedly searched for it - but it wasn’t there. I was a bit bummed, but still really happy for all my new cards.

Not sure why, but later that day I ended up opening one of the drawers on her computer desk, and to my surprise, there was my beloved Zapdos card staring back at me! The one remaining card from my original collection, and my favorite at that, had made it back to me!

To this day it is still my favorite card. It isn’t in the best condition, nor is it super valuable or anything, but it is the most sentimental to me

My first pull ever was a holo Clefable from a Jungle booster. I went with my brothers to our local card shop and bought a pack with the $5 my mom gave me. I only had a vague understanding of what Pokémon was at the time. I had watched a few episodes of the anime with my cousin, but I had never played the game or collected the cards. That all changed after opening that pack haha. Wish I still had the card! I guess the memory will have to suffice.

My first “pull” (you’ll see why it’s in quotes) is a funny story.

I was a little kid when base set came out and like many I got that starter deck. I was so excited and basically lost my mind when I saw that 1st edition Machamp. I thought it was the best card ever (obviously didn’t know every starter deck had a 1st edition Machamp and clearly I didn’t read the back of the box). I chuckle every time I think back on that. It was my favorite card my entire childhood because I thought it was so rare

I think the pull that kickstarted my interest in the collecting/trading/playing aspect of Pokemon was the FA variant of the Marshadow & Machamp GX where they are looking at the sunset. Felt real good at the time. I don’t know if I’d be participating in any Pokemon related items had I not pulled it, tbh.

I can’t remember my first pull lol it’s locked deep in my mind… or I just forgot it because it wasn’t anything lol

My most memorable card probably has to be this alternate art staff Cynthia. Took FOREVER to get it because people would send me the not staff version or the normal staff version, even had someone try and send me the normal art that wasn’t a staff either. It was a mess, but thankfully, after many, many tries, I finally got it. Also was the card to make me decide to do a Cynthia master set, just… so good to look at.

(Dust is in between the perfect fit and the larger sleeve, I’m not too bothered to try and clean it lol)

My first memorable cards were base set Poliwag and Charmander back in elementary school :stuck_out_tongue:

Certainly not the first card I owned, but I got this Parasect from some random magazine back when I was a kid and for whatever reason I decided to keep it in the plastic wrapping it came stapled to the magazine with.

I remember nagging my mum to buy the magazine for me in the shop. When I think of my childhood collection this Parasect is always one of the first cards which springs into my mind.

As for the first card I owned…

The first pack I ever got was a Neo Genesis Pack. I don’t remember the first holo I pulled but I do remember my Cyndaquil! My first memorable Holo Rare pulls were definitely my T17 & Lugia.

I think many of us who grew up with Pokemon probably did something similar. I still remember opening some of the files for gen 2 and assumed that, because I hadn’t seen the art before, it was rare. I did the same for Yugioh thinking I got a great pull when in fact it was the promotional card featured in every deck. XD

Now that’s what I’d call living the dream. :sunglasses:

My first pull is rather recent and not as interesting; my first Pokémon card was Ancient Mew though and it traveled around with me to many different parts of the world in my wallet.
It got a bit destroyed because I didn’t really protect it with anything and was more of a memento from happy times from childhood more than a collection piece back when I used to keep it in there.
Now it’s retired, I put it in a hard case to try and preserve it as much as I can despite the signs of wear.

We pulled a base set Charizard out of a potential shadowless heavy booster pack 2 weeks ago at Collect-A-Con

Definitely my most memorable pull

I first saw Pokemon cards in my art class as school. A kid had a few and he was drawing a Pikachu. I asked him if I could have a card to draw and he gave me a Bill. So Bill has always held a special place for me.

As far as pull the most memorable pull I have ever had was when my parents first took me to my local card shop. I had no idea up to that point that such gaming stores existed and it would become the ONLY place you would ever find me on the weekends lol. So my Mom took me to the store and was going to pick out one card I didn’t have to buy me. The only problem is that at this time the ONLY card I was missing was Alakazam and the store didn’t have one in the case. Yea that’s right I used to have an entire base set complete and a complete set of 1st edition rares (I would toss 1st edition un/commons :slightly_frowning_face: ). So instead she bought me a pack to open and I kid you not that pack had an Alakazam! I felt like the luckiest kid in the world! I had 9 charizards at one point as a kid and opened most of them, but opening that Alakazam was so surreal it will always stick with me.

There are a few, but one that I will always remember is the Togetic from Team Rocket Returns: 14/109 (Reverse Holo).
Being a lazy middle school girl pokemon collector at the time, I was very lucky to rip open several Team Rocket Returns/Deoxys packs and no other pokemon stood out to me the most than that Togetic. I was a big fan of Togepi/Togetic (still am) and I really liked this card when I pulled it out, but sadly I lost it in the great purge of 2008 (where I threw away all of my pokemon cards). I have to buy this card again soon to add it again to my personal collection.

*I tried to attach a picture that I found online, but it isn’t working for me…sorry  *

Back when I was chasing the PSA 10 gold star set and all I needed was PSA 10 Latias Gold Star for a complete set. I ended up doing a trade with a Youtuber who stopped posting. They lived in Singapore and we both paid each other Paypal G&S for protection. $1500-2000 trade in 2015 was a lot. Part of the trade was for a 36 loose booster packs of ex Deoxys. When I got the box home and opened it, I noticed that the loose packs were all over the place inside the box. I was really worried about the cards inside being damaged. After carefully unpackaging the items in the box I then proceeded to weigh the ex deoxys packs. I couldn’t wait to film a youtube so I decided to open the first heavy pack right then and there. On the first pack I pulled the Latias Gold Star (1 in 72 packs) and it eventually graded a PSA 10. I was ecstatic with that pull and PSA returns. The odds of of pulling the exact gold star I needed was One in 216 packs (not even going mention trading with a stranger) was one thing. Back then I had around 30-50% PSA 10 rate with pack pulled gold stars so in reality it’s a one in 432+ chance to get the card I needed and in PSA 10 condition. That is my most memorable pull and one of the things I cherish. The adventure, excitement and thrill that pokemon has brought to my life.

Back in the 2009 I remember sleeping over at my cousins house. He had a pretty decent sized binder of cards that I just absolutely adored. I remember going home and asking my dad for some cards afterwards. He bought one of those 100 card lots on eBay with random c/uc, and I specifically remember this holo shiftry being on the top of that lot.

Fast forward to Christmas of that year (2009? I think) and I opened an Arceus lv.x tin and an Empoleon lv.x tin

I got this promo

And this one

Luckily for me, my parents were always strict about keeping things organized and not losing things, so I have had my binder ever since. I found it sitting in my closet one day, and now I’m back to staring at and collecting the same shiny cardboard i loved when I was in elementary school
