What was your 1st booster pulled charizard?

Semi long read, just a heads up! But I think you’ll enjoy the story.

Today I pulled my first booster pack pulled charizard! I was soooooooooo stoked! As a kid collecting from base set - skyridge I literally never pulled a charizard, not even a non holo unlimited dark charizard… so this was mondo cool for me! Heres a picture of the zard, then I’ll give you the cool little story behind this special charizard of mine.

Since I started collecting a little over 2 years ago I have hardly opened any modern product. When I first got into it again, to fill my burning desire to open packs again I opened like 20ish xy evolutions packs (I had a blast!). Then at some random point I got a random freebie pack from an ebay seller on a purchase I made, I have no clue what set it was haha. Then other then that random freebie that was it til 2 years later I bought and opened an xy evolutions booster box (which I had a super blast!). So as far as modern product that’s it, like 50ish xy evolutions packs and one random unknown pack.

Well this evening, for the third time since hidden fates release, I was checking my local Walmart for a pin box… I’d really really like to open some packs from this set and hunt for a shiny wooper! So hopefully soon some freakin boxes will show up… but needless to say they didnt have any. So I left the card section and went to the toy section on the other end of the store where they have a very small pokemon card section. There were none there either sadly. BUTTTT there was one single xy evolutions pack laying on the shelf! It was either out of the cardboard blister they usually come in at Walmart or they also had these plastic blister pack things that have a random booster pack, a holo promo, and a coin. I doubt someone opened a cardboard blister and just took the pack out for the heck of it so My guess is some kid must have wanted the holo promo card card and/or the pin so he opened the blister, stole the card, ditched the blister packaging and left the booster pack. He/she must have felt less guilty stealing just a card rather then a whole pack Haha.

So I thought, maybe I can get a bargain here! I took it to the customer service manager and told them the pack was out of the proper packaging and went out on a limb and asked if I could get a discount. They obliged! They sold it to me for 2 bucks! I was thrilled! So I take my discount booster home and open it and get a reverse holo charizard! It was a most wonderful moment in my collecting experience! I was so jazzed about the whole scenario!

And that’s my story folks! I look forward to reading everyone else cool stories. Happy collecting everyone!

My first was ex Fire Red & Leaf Green, it was the only pack my parents bought me from the set too. Then some third grader convinced me to trade it for his water damaged wailord ex. Its all good tho i bought a PSA9 of it a couple months ago. Probably will upgrade to a 10 some day.

Burning Shadows Hyper rare Charizard for me. Since then I’ve pulled quite a few charizards, surprisingly.

My first was actually a unlimited base charizard off a charizard art pack when I was 4 or 5.

memory is very fuzzy but i’m sure it was sometime during then and at the time, I was only allowed to spend 4 dollars on trading cards per month. My parents thought they were worthless pieces of paper and a waste of money so they hated me buying cards, so whenever we’d go to K.B. toys, I would get the discounted booster packs- Jungle, Fossil, Rocket, and Base set were on clearance for like a good 2 years selling at 2 dollars each when gym/neo came out, and then 1 dollar each during the e series. Aquapolis had already come out during that time but each pack was 3.99, so essentially I had a choice: 4 packs of base/rocket/jungle/fossil or 1 pack of the newer sets. I would always choose the former, and I ended up actually pulling a holo zard one day, and took that card legit everywhere in my pockets with me.

Then one day I left a small stack of cards (not all, just a couple I was planning on bringing to school) out on the kitchen table and my mom threw them all away because she thought they were garbage (they did have a lot of creases, the concept of card conditions wasn’t a thing in my 5 year old brain… so I can see how my mom thought they were garbage) Charizard was in that lot. I was upset as all hell, but then no kidding that same weekend I went with my dad on a trip to half moon bay, CA and we stopped to get some food in a plaza with a K.B. toys and i proceeded to buy one single base set charizard art pack for 1 dollar (still on clearance) and got another zard. Good times. I still have that card today in the front page of one of my binders, covered in creases and playground blacktop scratch marks.

That was mine as well! Unfortunately when I was a child I bought more starter decks and tins than anything so I didn’t open that many packs. I still remember being in the toys r us parking lot in the back of my grandparents car and freaking out when I pulled it.

2008/09 Opened up one of those 3-pack blisters and pulled a Gold star Charizard from ex Dragon frontiers.
I had it graded 2-3 years later and it came back a 10. I will never be parting with this card (it’s coming with me to by deathbed  ).

My first 1st edition holo that I remember pulling was a Dark Houndoom. I recently got it encapsulated by PSA via Ludkins and it scored a PSA 7! That is one card I will never let go of (not that anyone cares about it except me :joy:).

I don’t remember the first holo I pulled. I’ll find that out when I pick up my childhood binder again. Thank you for this thread!

Oh wait this was supposed to be a Charizard :joy:

Mine was a Crystal Guardian Charizard. Can’t remember if it was a reverse or not.

My first (and last for that matter) was the Unlimited Base Set Charizard way back in 1999. Although I pulled several, it’s still technically the same card. The only other sets I opened were Jungle, 1st Edition Fossil and 1st Edition Neo Genesis, none of which contain a Charizard.

I pulled two from when i was a kid. The first one was a base set charizard…My mom was driving us home from one of my hockey games. We stopped off at a 7-11 and she bought me a pack. I opened it the second i got in the car and pulled the charizard! I remember getting super excited and screaming omg omg omg. Then i basically looked at it all night in amazement. It was in and out of the binder a lot to look at so its in ok condition. The second one was a reverse holo charizard from legendary collection. I don’t remember if i bought the pack from a 7-11 or a card shop where i attended pokemon league. I remember opening the pack in my room and was really excited because not only was it a charizard, it was a reverse holo charizard! It went straight into a sleeve then into a deck box so its in mint condition. Right after this i stopped buying packs and collecting, and all of my cards got put in a box to sit unappreciated. After pokemon go launched it brought back a wave of nostalgia and was the main factor in me rediscovering my cards and love for pokemon.

I have bought a ton of zards, probably over 30, but haven’t opened a pack since I was 13 or so and never pulled one. Some day I will and it will be awesome!

Was never able to pull one as a kid but when I got back into collecting around 2012 I pulled a Spanish 1st edition base Charizard. Was worth nothing at the time and auctioned it off and I think it sold for $15 or so :slightly_frowning_face:
