What was your first pack?

Additionally, what’s the story behind your first pack? What did you pull? Where were you? How old? Did you understand what Pokémon was at the time?

For me, I recall being on a weekend vacation/getaway with my parents. I think it was somewhere in Indiana. Must have been 9 years old. I didn’t know Pokémon cards were a thing, but something prompted them to buy me a pack of Base Set. The only thing I remember is opening an unlimited Gyarados and a water energy. Of course I had no idea how to play, but insisted the water energy was meaningless and my mom was fairly sure I was very wrong just from seeing all the water symbols in Gyarados’s attacks lol. To this day Base Set Gyarados is one of my favorite cards of all time.

Evolutions.

Was like 10 at the time and walked into the gamestop looking for Xbox 360 games. Came out with a pack of pokemon cards. I dont remember what i pulled outside of it being an Onix, a Farfetch’d, and a Nidorino. Farf was my fav pokemon at the time and was for the next like 6 years of my life so i was devestated when my cousins dog ruined my card like 2 years later.

I was 13/14 when the TCG came out

Not sure on first but i remember being in America on holiday and buying all the starter products.

My strongest pack opening memory was finally getting the charizard to complete base set.

My first pack was base set unlimited. I pulled a holo nidoking and traded it to an older kid for a caterpie because he was my favourite pokemon in the show

Looking at dates and trying to remember it, there’s a solid chance my first pack was from Hidden Legends.

I was a small kid in elementary school and my only cards were semi-destroyed played stuff bought online by my parents (or generously gifted to me by older friends). I BEGGED for some booster packs and finally they agreed! What I pulled wasn’t great, but the experience made me full of joy.

Yeah, probably a reverse holo Relicanth

I didn’t have many opportunities to buy packs (they were pricey and my parents didn’t like the gambling side of it) but at some point I have opened at least one of:
-skyridge
-legendary collection
-deoxys
-emerald
-delta species
-unseen forces

Definetely a base set pack. Im not sure how old I was, or where I was at, but seeing a holo and pokemon I was already familiar with made me so happy just as it does today.

Base on the Jersey shore boardwalk in 2000!
Best place to be as a 90s Pokemon kid

Every single arcade and shop had packs of base/fossil/jungle as prizes. I remember walking up to random other kids to trade and talk about how we wanted Charizard

How do you remember the month :sob:
I struggle to remember if I was 4 years old or 5 and if I pulled a holo or anything

How do you remember anything from 4 years old

I don’t, the only clear memory I have is my mom asking me what I wanted for icecream in a drive thru, then I remember eating a long fry and wondering how big the potato had to be to make the fry

For Pokemon I have a faint memory of telling my mom that I liked a pack in a Walmart I don’t really remember anything else

Just how my brain works maybe. I remember a lot of my childhood well, both the good & bad. I can replay that exact time and place in my head, almost like a photographic memory. I even remember the store owner being like “that’s the one everyone wants” and even he was excited about it at the time. The reason I know it was March is because Base Set 2 came out in late Feb 2000, and I recall being there about a month after Valentine’s, and the snow was starting to melt outside where I lived at the time.

Base Set unlimited. Would’ve been not long before Jungle was released, as Base is all that was available.

Opened the pack in the kitchen, after cradling it all the way home from town, wondering what cool Pokémon I was about to start my collection with…ended up pulling a Pokémon Trader (still own that same piece of cardboard disappointment).

Opened a couple more packs after that, and still didn’t pull a holo, so ended up being bought an Overgrowth theme deck whilst in school one day not long after.

Base set, specifically shadowless, from the comic and trading card section of the local bookstore. No idea what i pulled other than remembering my pull luck has remained consistently not very good.

I was so young when I started collecting, I don’t remember specifics but I’m pretty sure it was this set.

It was the first and only pack I opened as a child

My hits were so terrible I didn’t feel like opening again lol I sticked to buying individual cards during garage sales and trading the cards I didn’t like.
