The issue is that no one will open them.
Agreed. The attention span of an ultramodern collector is very short when new releases come out every few months. I am curious how VSTAR Universe / Crown Zenith will compare to Eevee Heroes / Evolving Skies.
Guys i just thought of a good tagline for evolving skies:
Good for Eevee, bad for E.V. (i feel clever )
Thatās the thing that new collectors (1-2 years in the hobby) might not have a clear picture.
Sure thing ES is a colossal set but the next week pokemon can go crazy and create a bomb set and people will gravitate towards the next shiny new thing, it happened, it happens and i think it will always happen.
Unless you are in for the super short term flipping and tracking prices (less than 3 years) .
Small Update:
Evolving Skies is at ~$270 on TCGPlayer before tax.
However, TrollandToad is selling boxes for $237 with free shipping on eBay. Theyāre also offering a $5 OFF code (TROLLBF5), so you could pick a box up for $232. Definitely the lowest price that Iāve seen in a while.
Iāve been following the Troll and Toad listing (mainly since I tried to order a box for Christmas and my order got canceled due to lack of inventory ); the listing was taken down at the $237 price point, came back up at a $259.95 price point (still offering the $5 coupon), and is now sold out yet again. So clearly people are still interested and willing to buy even at $250+. That said, I got lucky (āluckyāā¦still expensive) and found a listing for a box at $217 and snatched it up.
Curious if any of the hype surrounding VStar Universe/Crown Zenith and the expected mass of buyers there will make the Evolving Skies products drop slightly (at least in the short term of 3-6 months) to help attract those buyers, or if it will continue to stand on its own.
I doubt it. Theres been some half dozen sets released since Evolving Skies and its still over $200. If the prices goes down, a lot of people are just going to buy the available boxes, which will keep it from dropping anyways. Itād take a HUGE influx of boxes to really make a noticeable dent that isnāt just the typical ups and downs we see for everything in the hobby.
Iām still team reprint for Evolving Skies
You and me both!
Just found an etb and box at the flea market 210 total not bad
Thatās a great price! TCGPlayer is currently at ~$287, which is about $20 higher than two weeks ago.
Any knowledge if evolving skies will be reprinted? Of course if it was the price would dip slightly but even with a reprint the wave would probably be small. Interested in buying a few booster boxes to open/keep so just wondering
Hard to know.
The set is ~15 months old, so it isnāt unreasonable to suggest that another wave is coming. That said, Pokemon may not be incentivized to take up printer space/time with an older set when huge releases are coming up (Crown Zenith, Scarlet & Violet Base).
The second Evolving Skies wave reduced prices by ~23% from $180 to $140. But now that we are nearing $300 per box, another reprint could drop the price a bit further.
Im not sure if that info is public to even distributors. Im pretty sure they just get a short period of notification if there is a restock, not enough to really plan inventory around
It would be nice to publicly know whats still in the printer and what isnt though
Agreed. The best that we can do is speculate and watch the Standard rotations.
We know that Evolving Skies cards have an āEā regulation mark on the bottom, which suggests that they will be in Standard play through 2022-2023. It is safe to say that Evolving Skies will no longer be reprinted when it rotates out of Standard. But the actual date of removal from the printers will be much sooner than that.
Anyone who directly works with distributors; do the still issue a last call notification before something goes out of print? I believe Rudy said they used to do that
Another leg up for ES? I see Dacardworld listing BB for $325 now, crazy.
Iām seeing some stability on TCGPlayer at $280-$290. It wouldnāt surprise me if specific businesses are asking for $300.
December 2022 was the first month in a long time where Evolving Skies didnāt increase week-over-week. It is good to finally see some stability.
They rolled out a small restock i think. I saw more at walmart over the holidays. No boxes tho
