Evolving Skies Market Watch

I don’t think they are going to reprint ES when it rotates out in <3 months and nothing from SWSH Y2 has been reprinted for over a year. At least booster box-wise, I’m sure packs have been put into many products.

But also because they have already reprinted it many times. Plus, what you alluded to in your earlier post, mid of last year they reprinted all of SWSH Y3 which is the main reason for the crater in all of the singles’ prices and it hasn’t recovered. Basically don’t believe YTers saying anything is shortprinted - they haven’t been right on any set so far, or even if they were, TPCi has then gone and flooded the market.

How many alt arts did you pull in those 70 boxes? I’m guessing you don’t even have a master set yet?

And even then, with those bad pull rates, most singles’ prices are awful.

I would be shocked if they reprinted a 2021 set in 2024, especially after the increase in Evolving Skies sleeved blisters that we had in 2023. It’s possible, but highly unlikely.

They increased this week from $499. Though this is just one store, it’s still crazy to see the price.

I think it’s interesting that the peak investment of the era is a set that’s, on average, completely unenjoyable to open. The SAR pull rates are brutal, and there are no more common lesser hits like a trainer gallery to make the set worth opening for most people. It’s pretty well known that if you open a booster box you’ll most likely be walking away with little more than a pile of bulk.

That puts downward pressure on the price because there are many like me who wouldn’t pay MSRP to open a box, much less 3x MSRP. At the same time there’s upward pressure because a whale or streamer has to purchase a lot more product to pull something satisfying. And the low pull rates/accompanying high values make the set more attractive to gamblers in general, I think. The dopamine hit of getting that chase card is much more intense because it’s so rare.

Box price isn’t tied to EV. Look at evolutions, it costs more than ES and has terrible EV.

Yep, more expensive than ES with 2 cards in the entire set worth more than $50.

Evolutions boxes are 5 years older than Evolving Skies, and the last PSA 10 Evolutions Charizard just sold for $2,088 dollars on Dec 28th.

In october they were 375 but after ebay taxes and fees around the ball park of 410 - 420. Now you cant find many popping up at $485 - $500 after ebay taxes and fees. Better off grabbing them off insta. Maybe some will still pop up for $420 before fees but its getting tough to find great deals. They are slowly continuing to climb

Oh, I’m not criticizing or anything.

More remarking that the pull rates are so so so bad that I can’t understand how the singles’ prices are that ‘cheap’.

I used to ponder about this as I am still a singles colletor and dont keep any sealed boxes; though the conclusion I have arrived at is that there are simply much more people talking about the evolving skies sealed boxes than the singles themselves. You have a thread like this on e4, prolly 50 more threads like this on the pokeinvesting reddit, and from everyone on social media platforms that made this “play” on hoarding ES boxes.

The main take away is that it is easier to have a collective voice on a sealed product than singles, as people will start to dive into each card and have debates that will slowly drift out of topic such as “why moonbreon should not even be a $700 card in the first place”, and not that it is currently just $150 more expensive than 1, random sealed box. Which is fascinating and I agree it doesnt make any sense.

Evolutions charizard has a ~2% gem rate. Still a terrible EV.

If you’re trying to imply box prices are tied to the psa 10 charizard, then you have to acknowledge the black label moonbreon which is more than the zard.

Haven’t seen a sale price on a black label Evolutions Charizard yet because the pop is 0.

In fact, the pop report shows Beckett doesn’t even have a 10 for an Evolutions Charizard,

Wow ES booster box passed the $500 mark! it would increase substantially once 5th Apr has passed.

Few months ago, I used to see a few loose ES packs for sale here and there in vending machines and game shops at around US$12-13 each, but now no more I hardly see them! It’s like ES is getting extinct…

Don’t get what you’re saying but my ES slabs are still with me, not selling them yet. Just watching prices of ES products and cards with astonishment.

Yeah that card should be worth multiple times the current price of an ES booster box. It’s so undervalued now.

Probably won’t be relevant on this forum but I’m often curious the average number of sealed evolving skies packs that collectors have stored away. I know for me it’s over 400. That’s why it’s going extinct imo

I have probably like 200 or so
Only one box though. Didn’t have a chance to get enough boxes when prices were good like I did with some other sets unfortunately

I have 2, just for the artworks on 2 packs

0 evolving skies but I think I have 6 eevee heroes boxes and maybe 2-3 gym boxes

I have 1 each of the regular ETB and 1 each of the PC ETB, so I guess that makes it 36 packs total.

I don’t see many people posting evolving skies boxes in the “what’s your most recent purchase” thread compared to how often discussions are had about the prices of the box.

For what should be my favorite set of all time, it is pretty much ruined by how much it gets talked about in only regards to money and the #Moonbreon bros of the world, instead of just enjoying the cards in the set and the collectability of it.
