Early print runs had issues with texture pressing causing lips on the cards. That’s when I heard complaints about early grading being difficult. Don’t think anyone ever claimed Evo (or Shining Legends) will have a low PSA 10 pop though.
There is a fair chance Shining Legends will struggle. I know we’re only seeing the earliest stuff but it seems more likely that Shining Legends will be a brief product with fewer late runs than a standard set. With Crimson Invasion right around the corner and Pokemon literally canceling products for fear of overcrowding this holiday season, there’s a lot of signs pointing to this being harder than quarterly sets.
Too early to say, obviously, and I’m always on board with approaching things cautiously but I think it goes both ways. It’s too early to say this will be difficult and equally premature to say this is going to be as easy as early 2016-early 2017 quarterly sets to pull 10s out of.
Contributing my own pull rates after my first wave of opening:
144 packs (1 pin case of each mewtwo and pikachu)
9 shining, 2 lab mewtwo, 12 reg art gx, 5 FA gx, 2 trainer fa, 3 RR.
Fun packs to open. All my shinings and labs are headed to PSA. Going to try to get on that early 10 gravy train. I feel like two of them overall are 8/9 and the rest are solid 9’s/10 chance. I didn’t have the issues some reported, though I did have slight off centering on a few and some minor whitening here and there but it felt like decent quality overall.
Got to take that thought process out of your head man. Collect to collect. Don’t collect to invest. Collect because you enjoy it, profit should only be made once something better comes along that you really want.
To answer your question though almost every set that if left unopened for years will see some sort of growth in value through time. This set is a highly anticipated set that people want to get there hands on. Yet the results of the sets condition on pulls in English so far hasn’t been positive. Still that could add to value in the long run for rarity and scarcity of recieving high graded cards. This is all speculation. What it will come down to is if consumers will want this set in the future when it’s not manufactured anymore. That is something that can’t be pre anticipated. There is no quantifiable way of finding the answer to that. Not without waiting and seeing how consumers feel about this set over the next couple months and even years. The set does have promise though. I believe in that much. If you want to collect a few boxes go for it. I wouldn’t break the bank though on it.
Cheers man im not fussed about breaking the bank its more my partner reckons itll be a good thing to buy haha whereas im probably opposite and want one for display one for opening to grade them
I believe gary can vouch for me in the haha will be on around 60 psa 9 1st ed cards trying to.complete the set. I just like to mix it up with new sets every now and again
For sure man i got the JP shining legends and loved it due to high quality ! But wanna open the english set just to see if i can pull something of same quality. But seeing some pictures in the thread of crappy shining cards puts me off
Got me all hyped up when I first saw this haha. You are right though got to start somewhere. I know there is no true way to collect these cards but I personally feel I am all over the place with what I want to collect lol. So many wants.
