English Pokemon TCG will now feature silver borders

they’ve had to deal with it since legendary collection reverses

This is huge! I have mixed feelings as the yellow borders have always been synonymous with english pokemon cards. However with all the different rarity types, they definitely clash, especially character rares. I would have maybe preferred a more white yellow, like the ex era borders. Ultimately I think the grey/silver border works better for the modern era. Its definitely going to be an adjustment for me. :older_man:

the difference between wotc borders, japanese old back borders, e series borders, and nintendo/TPCI borders is also pretty annoying if you do care about consistency. part of the reason why i dislike modern english borders is because the yellow is so bright

its one of the reasons why I still think shining legends was the best set in the last 10 years, you could line them up next to the old unlim shinings and it looks pretty close, just a little thinner

Definitely got mixed feelings as well. Part of the reason I started buying some newer Japanese cards was because I liked the silver borders on certain cards more than the English counter-part. Now I feel there is a bit less incentive to look at Japanese cards going forward (talking just regular set cards released in both languages).

So in some ways to me it’s a good thing if you’re an English-only collector, but I was kind of just starting to enjoy the uniqueness of having either yellow or silver borders for a given card in my collection, and now that unique difference is basically going to be gone on these newer sets.

A big step in the right direction! Especially with the guarenteed holo pulls. There is still plenty of vintage kicking about for those who want the nostalgia of yellow borders!

This is crazy! I have to agree with @jabby there was something fun about how English and Japanese contrasted and had their own identity. It made collecting one or the other feel like another layer of uniqueness. My main issues with English were the terrible QC, horrendous pull rates and set composition, so ill be interested to see how things change. Im also sad about the set symbols lmao. It looks like the English is moving closer to Japanese overall. This is honestly an A+ experience for English collectors imo, but strangely, not sure how I feel about it as a Japanese collector. Itll be interesting to see how things play out.

Also… yellow borders :money_mouth_face::chart_with_upwards_trend: psa 10 discontinued???

Personally I had nothing against the yellow and enjoyed English having it’s own identity. That being said the silver does look good. I’m sure it will grow on me.

This just in:

Also like their Japanese counterpart,
English sets won’t be a hodgepodge of previous sets, and also won’t be printed into oblivion. And did you mention exclusive promos? There will be tons of exclusive Eng…ok maybe not.

Losing the set symbol is a feels bad

Guys what if they change the back of the cards too

Then the Poké Ball on the back won’t be inconsistent with the modern style guide anymore and I will finally know peace.

The legacy Poké Ball on the back of international cards depicts the button attached to the bottom even though it was standardized and formalized to always be attached to the top 20 years ago. It creates a frustrating inconsistency because card art itself always depicts Poké Balls opening the correct way but the back of the card is now wrong.

I’d welcome this revision. Nothing looks as good as old back Japanese anyway. But I also think they would have shown it here if they were making that change.

not sure if this has been mentioned here yet, but it seems like another thing international sets are adopting are placing FA+ in the SR section of the set list. Turo is 190/198. there will be at least one stadium, probably two, a special energy or two, and likely a few more trainers after him. I highly doubt there will only be one or two FAs in the set
