Anyone transition to Japanese for quality and borders?

I recently got back into collecting and opening Eevee Heroes has me thinking of just going to Japanese. The print and cut quality is so much better. The non-yellow borders and blurred back is so much better.

It is nice being able to read the English and English has a bigger market but I’m struggling with which way to go.

Anyone go towards Japanese and regret it?

I don’t think anyone who has gone Japanese has regretted it lmao

Japanese all day. Everything with English on it is a watered down version of Japanese.

All of the above friend, and welcome!

For me it took time to preferring japanese over english cards, but try to also have an open mind on things as well as collecting doesnt have to be so black and white. You could by some cards in japanese, some in english, or both at times and whatever the choice may be, so long as youre happy in doing so, it would be the right move.

Hope this helps

Just wait until you discover more and more cards that don’t even exist in English :stuck_out_tongue:

I opened around 150 Japanese packs last year for the first time ever due to that x4 free Charizard card per order and I haven’t purchased English cards since. Very happy to buy Japanese versions with the better border and print quality. When it comes to new cards you can be much more confident in the print quality! And they have more exclusives which is more fun.

Japanese cards have better quality. For set cards, we are paying less for more.

I can’t be bothered learning Japanese so I will never collect it

English truly is like Coors light compared to Japanese both in terms of card quality and releases. That said I still collect English as well as Japanese given the chase element of 10s in anything Black/White era and earlier. I push past the less desirable yellow borders since I want to be able to read the cards and don’t read Japanese (yet). I’m probably 50/50 right now but I’m with @dizzle24, no reason to be either/or unless you don’t want the hassle and prefer to commit to just one. You will miss out on cards if you only collect English whereas vice versa not so much.

And yes I HAVE regretted not buying the English counterpart of some cards I truly like when I only own the Japanese version. It’s not rational, but it is what it is.

Jpn are fun and great quality. All my money has been made on English cards though.

seems eevee heroes has print issues this time around :slightly_frowning_face: white marks etc pack fresh. Usually though they are spot on apart from the odd print lines and sometimes centering.

I mainly collect Japanese now and have for the past 3 or so years after my English mass modern binge for a several years prior XD Ooopsies

For me it’s all about the art, and card esthetics. I could care less about reading any text on the card. Silver border will win versus yellow border any day of the week. Chip in the exclusive holo variations that the Japanese receive that the English does not, and it’s no brainer for me.

I transitioned to Japanese after opening CP6. For all the same reasons.

I didn’t really notice that when I watch youtubers opening Eevee Heroes.

For English cards, as long as they have the ugly yellow borders, I am not interested unless the cards are English-exclusive. Whenever I have free time, I like to see the holo/foil glitter under the light. The yellow border is just so distracting.

It would only be a transition if you were planning on giving up/selling all your English cards and exclusively collecting Japanese. Even if you were to only collect Japanese from now on, isn’t that just adding to your collection? I had collected Japanese from the beginning back in 99. I only saw it as another Variant, like Unlimited/1st/Shadowless. Granted one I couldn’t even read which ultimately is why English is always gonna be King in the English Market.

I collected both English and Japanese for a time but found it too hard to keep up with both without losing focus of my collection goals. For me personally, Japanese > English in appearance and print quality, but I just find it more rewarding chasing down mint English. Nowadays I go Japanese for exclusives and English for everything else so I can get the best of both worlds. You can’t go wrong with either, so I’d just collect what brings you the most joy and fulfillment.
