@Dyl planning the piece in Procreate took around 2-3 hours. It’s harder to track how long the cutting of the stencils/cards and assembly took because I spread the work across multiple days. But I’d say probably another 4 or 5 hours of actual work.
It’s a commitment, but I’m happy with how this one turned out.
Amazing work as always! The shading of the colors is always an attention to detail that elevates your pieces to the next level The precision necessary for lining up all those pieces so that they fit neatly under the black cardstock is also no joke. I feel like there’s not a lot of room for error there, given how thin some of those outlines can be.
I used to cut all my pieces entirely by hand with an x-acto knife, but recently I’ve been cutting the black cardstock layer with my Cricut.
As @bbobrob pointed out, I have to cut the cards precisely enough so that separations are hidden under the black cardstock layer. But this also relies on the black cardstock layer being exactly as planned, which isn’t always realistic when dealing with designs that have thin <1mm lines for example. So getting to plan the line art in Procreate and cut it with my Cricut eliminates that variable and more reliably yields a clean piece like this one
@niece Amazing pieces! The concept with Greninja and the angel’s ladders give the piece a feeling of serenity after the supposed storm. And the flora and background in general in your second piece is absolutely beautiful (your flora is always on point!).
@cyberurchin The lighting and Charizard’s glare really make him look menacing here. Great work!
@citriina Extremely cute work! I have a fondness for all round pokemon
Another playmat illustration finished! This collection of Pokemon was a ton of fun too. I love adding a bunch of little details, even when I know they won’t be seen on tiny phone screens, haha. At least when they’re printed full size like the playmats, they’ll be noticeable.
