Now that I’m quite close to completing my English goals, recently I’ve been contemplating the next goal of a complete psa 10 no rarity set.
Anyone has views on feasibility or how long do you think it would take? I’ve been pondering about it and trying to think of a path forward but not sure…has that ship sailed?
Unfortunately I would be starting from zero, has anyone tried and how was it like?
PSA no longer grades venusaur and raichu… Also, the holos often have centering issues so even pack fresh cards have a low chance of being gem mint. I am personally very slowly putting together a PSA 7/8 holo set, as that still feels somewhat realistic to achieve eventually.
If I’m correct the set numbers on the no rarity cards are incorrect and therefore PSA doesn’t grade them anymore.
Doesn’t really make sense, but hey they do whatever they wan’t and all we can do is cry about it .
Seems like a very very very hard goal to complete the set in 10, not impossible though…
There are only 5 PSA 10 Charizard (1 was actually with rarity symbol but got mislabeled as no rarity if I remember correctly from old posts) and I do not think anyone who has one is selling. Raichu and Venusaur bear an incredible premium due to the not grading anymore by PSA and there is only 1 Raichu (which is listed on eBay I think).
@zubat93@slabsniper As mentioned by @handschoen , Raichu and Venusaur have the wrong index number at the bottom-right. No Rarity Raichu is 025 (Pikachu) instead of 026 and Venusaur is 068 (Machamp) instead of 003.
Although it’s theoretically possible, I’d say it’s extremely hard and unlikely to complete this full set in PSA-10. Right now there are two No Rarity cards without any PSA-10 at all in the PSA Pop Report (Item Finder and Scoop Up). There are also a bunch of cards with POP-1 in PSA-10, including the Raichu which cannot be graded by PSA anymore. And the low POP PSA-10s in general barely pop up, and if they eventually pop up for sale they’re priced ridiculously high.
Some people that I know collect PSA-graded No Rarity Base Set cards have been going after PSA-8/9 mostly. @megashiningmagikarp recently completed this goal after three years for example: www.elitefourum.com/t/megashiningmagikarps-collection-victory-medal-set/19102/58, so maybe he can add his opinion to this thread on how feasible completing a full PSA-10 No Rarity set would be in his opinion. When he started in 2017, some cards were even POP-0 for PSA-8+ to give you an idea.
We might see more of these come in if grading becomes more popular in Japan (I’ve heard a PSA office opened up in Japan somewhere at the start of 2019 iirc; although I have seen some PSA-graded cards on Yahoo Japan, I haven’t seen that much evidence of Japanese collectors massively grading cards).
Anyway, nothing is impossible with enough patience, will-power, and money. But I think it’s going to take decades and loads of money and time, and grading raw cards yourself, to one day complete this goal. So yeah, good luck.
Where there’s a will there’s a way. You wont do it if you don’t try! If you start trying it’ll no doubt be a really fun and lengthy challenge with many satisfying moments when you finally get a card you were looking for. Yes they are rare but pops are there to get higher… re Raichu & Venusaur who is to say that they will never grade them again. Get them in BGS in the meantime.
Another issue with this set which is the only thing holding me back from attempting to complete a psa 8/9 set is the knowledge that psa have passed unlimited cards with the stars painted over as no rarities in the past.
I actully have a PSA 10 No Rarity Alakazam but it’s not for sale, maybe A trade of some kind would be interesting. Also I know that pokesyndicate on Instagram have a few of these jewels
Even besides the fact that psa isn’t grading two of them…it’s really really really hard to find these mint. Ask Jon or r2d2 how impossible it is to find gem mint no rarity in the wild (here in the US at least). Nearly everything out there is a 5-7
