Zyxxke's retro tech collection

I mentioned somewhere on forum earlier that my other collecting passion - retro, old, outdated electronic devices. I’m not so actively buying them now, but I have something to show. The topic will be updated as I get around to taking photos.

Mechanical Keyboards

I’ve hopped in this very addictive hobby in 2019. I collect specifically Japanese manufactured.

ASCII Sono1 ASKeyboard is originally made for the NEC PC-98 systems and can also be connected to Mac via official adapter “pineapple”. ALPS SKCL Green switches provide really comfortable typing experience. She was carefully converted for the modern PC and slightly retrobrighed. Now I daily use it and even play osu on it.

Realforce FD01D0 is a limited edition (200) Topre keyboard with blank keycaps and without Realforce branding. It was sold exclusively on Akihabara.

HHKB Professional 2 is a classic choice to try out well-built Topre keyboard. It has gone through many variants, but I settled on pink resin Hi-Pro keycaps.

JDL EKUJ7 (Japan Digital Laboratory) - office keyboards that this company used to order from Topre. I did find at least 10 different models of this keyboard (different case designs and even colors). It’s usable on normal PCs, but some of the keys work weirdly or don’t work at all.

Video Editing Units. The first one is a EDIUS keyboard made for grass valley by Topre. The second one is a Sony BKE-2010 which uses conductive rubber contact mechanism instead of normal capacitive Topre switches.

Amazing electronics and also amazing photography. Do you also dabble in cameras or photography equipment? Asking because I think your shots are very professional. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers!

I don’t know much about the keyboards, but I can say that your photos make them look very alluring and like very cool display pieces (though it seems they also have practical use!). The Pokemon Center Gameboy Color also looks great, and although I don’t know what that Gameboy Light is, it looks very cool too!

And you must be an old-school gamer if you have CRT TVs :slightly_smiling_face: I picked one up for free off the street with the thought of using it with my SNES and N64, but I just haven’t had the time to clean it or play games, so every once in a while, my wife asks why we can’t throw it out  Once the kiddo is old enough, I’ll see if I can introduce her to the old-school Nintendo systems.

Your photos are stunning and show off your collection beautifully. I’m particularly fond of your green Gameboy as that’s the same colour as mine.

@mrbubbles thank you brother, yeah, I have some studio lighting and a few lenses for sure. I’d be happy to buy some new, but ehh… Photo equipment is soo expensive, especially now.

@bbobrob thank you < 3 It would be cool to have a giant glass display for everything I have like on pictures below:

That Gameboy Light is a modded one, the only authentic thing in it is internal:D

I wouldn’t call myself an oldschool gamer haha, but I felt nostalgic year ago when moved to appartements. So decided to grab the biggest CRT I can at the moment. I saw on reddit that kids show interest on retrogaming stuff. I think she would like it because it is different from the current technology around us. I think that’s what makes them curious.

@D3F14NC3 thank you! You got that shell from Funnyplaying on alie?

Ah, the shell made me think it was a Japan-exclusive model or something :joy: Looks cool regardless! I hope what you read is true. I would love to be able to relive some classic games while enjoying them with my daughter!
