@smpratte,
Come out on the 27th and we could do it together:)

I read this as “Hey Can I piggyback of everything you’ve done and your success in the pokemon community so I can gain more followers and views and in turn increase my monthly cheque from Youtube.”

@seeingdouble,

And what’s wrong with that? I love it when people are innovative and work hard to achieve. Seriously I’m proud to help in any way I can:)

Look at it this way. The more popular Pokémon gets, the more money our collections are worth. :joy:

I think it is a fair exhange Anthony has millions of subscribers will bring exposure to the E4 cause, winrar on all accounts.

This seems like a good opportunity for everyone involved. Yes, the final video will be selectively edited for entertainment value, but not every Pokemon video needs to be primarily informational. Anthony Padilla has an enormous following and seems to respect those he invites on the show . . . I say do it! Either way, the video will get made, and I like the idea of having Gary and Scott representing the Pokemon community to a mainstream audience. Plus it’s more exposure for the hobby, and a really cool opportunity to hang with a YouTube legend.

Scott, you need to go! If you made a video about the experience for your channel and interviewed Anthony about his background with Pokemon, that could be a huge draw for your own channel. I know it’s not really your target audience, but just something to think about.

@butchdawg32, I messaged him about potentially doing something in August at worlds or at some point. I definitely see the opportunity. Its simply a time/scheduling issue.

That’s cool and to each their own, but I’m not one for being used as a stepping stone.

You must be a blast at parties

I don’t think you used that cliche in the right context lol. Im not fun at parties because I don’t understand the benefit in appearing on some random social media influencers clickbait Youtube channel? Im a quality over quantity type guy. I took a quick look at his content and its all clickbait trash for the most part. It looks like he ran out of ideas for content and is making videos of anything and everything “mirroring” people for the day. I can only imagine what the comment section of a pokemon card video with a few million views will look like. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Any kind of interview will only improve the awareness of the efour community. Unless YOU want to do your own videos, this is only going to help the community.

The textbook definition of stepping stone is “an action or event that helps one to make progress towards a specified goal.” I think we can all agree this guy doesn’t make Youtube videos because he loves all his subscribers so much, no of course not. He does this because in return for views he gets a cheque. I am not saying he is going to gain followers by having Scott or Gary appear on his channel, but Scott and Gary will be providing him with content that he can monetize. End of story. Also highly doubt that a single Youtube video will bring in any quality collectors or do anything to really benefit the hobby.

I think it’s a great idea. The more exposure to the collector-side of Pokémon, the better. At least for us collectors :blush:

I’ll be on the lookout for any content produced that features any E4 members!

Aren’t you going just a little bit overboard with the “…he gets a cheque” argument? Some would say it’s admirable to work hard and get paid for it. You talk like getting paid for your efforts is a bad thing.
I’ve always supported Scott’s work too. Do you really believe that what he’s doing is wrong and he’s just using me as a “stepping stone”?
Just curious…is there even one other member here who agrees with seeingdouble’s pov?

Good point. He’s actually a “stepping stone” for the Pokémon hobby;)
Plus the channel he created, Smosh, got up into the 10s of millions.

@seeingdouble,

One more thing. I support Leonhart and his efforts too. Though he’s geared for a younger audience, he still promotes the hobby and that’s important to me. In fact, I just sent him stuff for his charity efforts he does through his channel and am pushing it everywhere I go including here on E4. He’s already raised more than his last one even though it hasn’t even aired/been pushed yet. He should easily double his best charity effort…thanks to E4 and all of us who participate.
Don’t be cynical brother. We all do a lot of good here. And it’s never a disgrace if you can do something you love to do and make money at the same time;)

Gary, Im not against you appearing on your friends youtube channel. I actually have a ton of respect for you and what you do for the hobby. Im just saying that he is looking for content, and his youtube is full of clickbait title videos with little to no substance.

Getting paid for your efforts is fine, I have had 2 large exits from companies I founded and I respect anyone who is willing to take a risk and can be successful in their chosen path…but this guy is putting a camera on people and “mirroring” them, and in turn getting paid for other peoples efforts. Im sure its harder than anyone can imagine to find content for millions of subscribes so I can understand why he wants to do these style videos and at the end of the day people will watch just about anything nowadays so more power to him I guess.

It doesn’t bother me if anyone agrees with me or disagrees and you shouldn’t let anything I say effect your decision as it seems most people support this and think that the community as a whole will benefit from yourself and Scott appearing on his channel.

I see where your point Gary and I dont want to come across as being cynical or a downer. When I had my last business I had a very large number of social media followers and request for interviews and collabs but, I never did them because the intrest was never genuine. There was always a hidden agenda. So maybe seeing that screenshot of his message to scott triggered some negatives from my personal life experiences.

As for Leonhart he has a pokemon based channel and encourages people to donate to charity, I can support that every day of the week and twice on Sundays! The 2 videos(I think?) that you appeared on Leonharts channel were very informative and Leonhart genuinely wanted you to appear on his channel because you are a legend in the hobby and you two are friends. My point is Leonhart obviously has no hidden agenda and his subscribers already expect pokemon related content so it makes perfect sense to cater to them. In contrast this Anthony Padilla guy appears to see pokemon as an easy source of content for some quick views.

@seeingdouble,

“getting paid for other peoples efforts”.
Hopefully, as you move up in life, this will no longer be a problem for you. After all, granting other people opportunities where you both benefit makes the world go round (unless you’re in a communist/socialist country. That I can’t speak to lol.

I think he’s done a half dozen Pokémon related videos. Probably geared to the younger set cause honestly I don’t get them lol but who am I to judge:)

Oh, I’ve done three videos with Lee.
