XY9 Rage of the Broken Heavens!

@fourthstartcg could salamence not be a possibility also? Ik it had a holo in emerald break but so did dragonite which had an EX in rising fist only 3 sets previous.

If they release Salamence, it’d presumably be with its Mega form as well, but we already know that XY9 only has two Megas and they are Gyarados and Scizor. :slightly_frowning_face:

Ah that makes sense, I haven’t a clue which pokes have megas tbh as I haven’t played the games since gen 4 haha.

Still wondering why Manaphy is a Legendary Pokemon and Phione isn’t… Btw, the Manaphy EX looks horrible…

That is some really sweet Frogadier artwork. Get that guy to illustrate all the regular EXs now!

Translations from PokeBeach:

Greninja BREAK – Water – HP170
BREAK Evolution – Evolves from Greninja
Greninja BREAK retains the attacks, Abilities, Weakness, Resistance, and Retreat Cost of its previous Evolution.

Ability: Giant Water Shuriken
If this Pokemon is your Active Pokemon, you may discard a [W] Energy from your hand. Then, put 6 damage counters on 1 of your opponent’s Pokemon.

Greninja – Water – HP???
Stage 2 – Evolves from Frogadier

[C] Shadow Slip: During your opponent’s next turn, each Pokemon he or she has in play, in his or her hand, and in his or her discard pile has no Abilities (including Pokemon newly brought into play).
[W] Gekko Slash: 60+ damage. You may choose 1 [W] Energy attached to this Pokemon and return it to your hand. If you do, this attack does 20 more damage.

Manaphy-EX – Water – HP120
Basic Pokemon

Ability: Aqua Cube
Each of your Pokemon that has any [W] Energy attached to it has no Retreat Cost.
[W][W] Mineral Pump: 60 damage. Heal 30 HP from each of your Benched Pokemon.

‘Arcanine or die’ one of the best poketo monsta imo.

Not very well informed on the TCG… but with that ability, could someone discard multiple water energies and put damage counters on opponent pokemon? e.g. discard 5 water energy and then place 30 damage counters which would be enough to knock out any Pokemon.

It specifies one energy in the attack description so you can only return one energy per attack, keep in mind they return to your hand rather than being discarded.

Ok I see. Pokebeach has a translation that is more clear: “Once during your turn (before your attack), if this Pokemon is your Active Pokemon, you may discard a [W] Energy from your hand. Then, put 6 damage counters on 1 of your opponent’s Pokemon.”

I was on about the attack anyway :stuck_out_tongue: but yea the ability is one use per turn I believe, if not just run greninjas with water energies and drawing trainers and take multiple prizes per turn :stuck_out_tongue:

Yep, once per turn. But, once per turn per Greninja with the ability. So, if you have 2 Greninja BREAKs out, you can use 2 of the Abilities. If you run the XY Greninja under it you can also use its ability as well. So, with 2 Greninja BREAKs in play, you can use 2 ‘Giant Water Shuriken’ Abilities in addition to the regular ‘Water Shuriken’ Ability. So by discarding 4 Water Energy you could put 180 damage on your opponent’s Pokemon in any way you like. Not bad.

Edit: whoops, it has to be active. But the point still stands. With Manaphy-EX you can retreat for free as long as you have a Water energy attached, so you can get off up to 2 Giant Water Shurikens in one turn. Plus the XY Greninja’s ability doesn’t require it to be active.

Could one water energy cover both abilities? I don’t see why not. i.e. Discard one water energy and each ability works for 90 damage? Why would it need 2?

Because Abilities have to be activated separately. In the same vein, if you have 3 XY Greninja in play, you can’t discard one energy and activate all three Abilities at once. The BREAK evos are kinda confusing as it’s the first time we get cards with 2 Abilities, but trust me, it doesn’t work the way you are describing.

Okay. Wasn’t sure on if they made that distinction clear or not somewhere.

Top kek… :sob:

Gotta say I couldn’t agree more, suicune deserved an EX so much more :slightly_frowning_face:

So suicune is not gonna be in this set?

It isn’t confirmed mate. No one here has super access to set lists in advance. We are all going by what is on Pokébeach. =)

i HOPE they start making pokemon cards like they use to with the oldschool ex’s, because these EX cards are starting to look pretty damn chaddy. The BW series HAd it right with there Gold boarder UR, and the artwork within the Rectangle… They shouldnt have reduced this layout to NORMAL HOLO Rares. Seriously, the Gyarados ex from this set looks retarded.
