Yep, Beckett is very lenient on dents and creases compare to PSA. There’s a reason the owner graded it with Beckett over PSA, and I’d be willing to bet in this specific case it’s not just company preference.
Ok guys, so what is a PS6 no rarity zard worth? If he wants the trade, he should offer the blastoise 9 and some cash. If 7 seems too high, what seems more reasonable? Also people will always buy a grade rather than just a card. It IS a BGS 8 whether yall like it or not.
No rarities are base Japanese cards missing the rarity symbol on the bottom right front corner.
It’s basically a variant that was known but completely ignored for 20 years until someone marketed/pushed it like crazy and made it a thing. He did a really good job;)
@garyis2000, It took a while for them to be understood since there was so much mystery behind their release. But that changed and people are becoming more aware of their significance in Pokemon card history. I’m actually surprised to hear you downplay them! If that initial no rarity print run was a bust we would not have the market we have today
The global demand for this card is very high. The USA is starting to have some interest, but still very low. Because the supply is low, and it is. Any additional volume on this card will not cause it to do anything else but grow.
I know you are king Pokémon, i respect your opinion. I know that there are a lot of unknowns regarding the production and distribution of these cards. I’m not here to negate that. I’m only trying to say that, it doesn’t matter. People BELIEVE that this is the alpha run. It most likely is. The prior demand was essentially isolated to Asia and Europe and Australia for some reason. These cards were regularly selling for double on yahoo what they would bring on eBay. When I listed my first one for sale, to upgrade. I had about 65% of my interested buyers from everywhere but the USA. I just wouldn’t ship it out, and they were offering more than USA interested buyers.
I’m not pointing at pop’s like everyone else does. But this card is in fact scarce, relative to 1st ed, and shadowless. I think the OP is giving up a little much. I value that card somewhere between 14-16.5. Closer to 14. But, I don’t think it’s a bad trade.
Also. Several times I’ve had people reach out and say they saw Leonharts and Pokerevs video yada yada, “just found out about them” Once the few that are for sale get sold. It’s going to get harder to find a good copy. Unlike a base 1st ed zard. If I want a PSA 7-9, I can literally snag one the next PWCC block. Not with this card.
I think what actually changed perception. Was having more proof around when they were actually distributed. Prior to that, there was no proof and it was best guess. So it’s hard to say something is first print when there isn’t any quantifiable evidence.
Also. Japanese cards have always been slept on, in that respect they can’t be compared. What makes this unique to collectors is the fact they are starting to be viewed as the alpha set. At this point, that won’t really change unless there is strong evidence that comes out the contrary. Hell. Even Scott’s last auction references the historical significance of this set, specifically that card.
These will always be niche. But they will always be scarce, and they will always be the first run.
I’ll take the historical significance and the scarcity over 1st base any day of the week. The Zards are also cheaper in most grades than 1st. With like 1/12 of the pop, and little to no sealed product left. Thank god I started collecting when I did. I’m still missing some cards. But I have the ones I need.
Just the fact that we all knew about them but nobody cared for 20 years. And I mean nobody collected them beyond being fillers. Then PokeSyn launched a great marketing campaign and it worked. I’m not knocking it. I think it helps the hobby even if just short term.
A lot of the PSA 6/7 zards are poor. With the Pop so low, the real condition across 5/6/7 really varies.
Just take a look at the two for sale, the high res scans. They are TERRIBLE examples of each of those grades. I had considered bidding on the 7 before I saw the scans.
That 8 could potentially cross. It looks 50/50, they grade them harder now.
I have some no rarity 8s that would make you wonder what that guy was smoking that day. Still love them though. I also like that they are an 8 lol.
Is it possible to trade for a shadowless or first edition Charizard instead of no rarity? That is what I would do. Would be easier to trade something where the value is well understood especially if it’s a high value item.
Also, I think Japanese cards are usually better in quality compared to English, but shadowless and first edition is an exception. The colors in shadowless cards are more vibrant and look better than base Japanese in my opinion.
So you are basically valuing this at around $17K-$19K personally, based on recent Blas transactions + $7k. It seems high. The two of the highest bidder both have track records for bid retractions, which makes me wonder if there was shill bidding going on. The sub-grades also do not look great with wide fluctuations. It’s interesting that the second lowest bidder dude did not pick it up at $25.5K since he bid that amount.
I personally would stay away, but my opinions are only my own. The auction price looks fishy to me, and therefore the perceived/implied value perception set. You may think you are getting a deal here, but that can just be a mirage.
Youre right that shadowless colors are more vibrant than unlimited. No rarity actually had the same compared to normal japanese base. The no rarity cards also look more vibrant.
Personally I would keep the 1st Edition Blastoise from both a collecting and investing perspective.
Charizards are the best (obviously), but I don’t think a PSA 8 no rarity is super special or in the top 10 most desirable cards whereas the 1st Edition Blastoise is the next best thing after the 1st Edition Charizard IMO. So to me this makes the collection more interesting and varied, and to potential high-end future buyers I see them thinking the same way.
Think of it as owning a collection of Ferraris (Charizard) and a Lamborghini (Blastoise), then trading your only Lamborghini for another Ferrari
