World Record Price

Honestly, I think I have my numbers wrong lol.

I was thinking alpha/beta boxes were over 1mil and somewhat of a unicorn at this point. I was basing it on that to a degree.

Alpha, maybe. Beta, likely a lot lower than $1m – probably more in the low to mid six-figures. But it’s really tough to say. Unlimited is somewhere in the vicinity of $100k to $150k, so I honestly doubt Beta would be more than $500-600k, but I could be wrong. I haven’t seen a Beta sale in years (although there are actually multiple recorded sales from the past 15 years or so).

With the recent sale of 1st Ed. Base, it sounds like it might even be worth as much as Beta at this point lol. As you said, Pokemon honestly just seems to have a higher interest ceiling than MTG. Pokemon is so much more culturally prevalent; most people haven’t even heard of MTG. In all honesty, though, I’d rather own a Beta box, though lol. Much rarer, much more mythical…plus, drafting it would be a blast. And I really need to upgrade my ugly whitebordered Timetwister…ew

Good job house:)

I’m sure this won’t be the last time we post a new record breaking sale in this thread…sooner than later I’m sure of it.

How do taxes work when buying something like this for 375K with a suitcase of cash? A quick google search says “The capital gains tax on your net gain from selling a collectible is 28%.”

They are gooood! I got my 24k Gold Pikachu 10X what I thought it would sell for!

I would take a gander that it wouldn’t be wise to cheat Uncle Sam on a sale like that. :moneybag::moneybag::eggplant::doughnut:

No problem if it’s an in person cash deal.

It was just a staged show;)
