Has anyone bid in the live auction before? I’ve read heritage’s documentation but still not 100% how it works, in particular, how each lot will last, and what’s the ending condition. Thanks in advance!
You can put in a proxy high bid or you can actually bid live against others online. You’ll also get one “cut” bid per lot meaning you can bid at half the increment of a normal bid. If there are no bids for 5 seconds then it hammers and you’ll get an invoice the next day
Thanks a lot! Very helpful. So in the extreme case, a lot can come up and end in 5 seconds if no one outbids the highest proxy high bid during the live event?
Correct…it’s very rare that no one bids in the live event but I have seen it before. Also depends on how big your proxy bid was haha you’ll see the bids pop up either as Heritage (internet) or Heritage (live) next to each bid so you can see if someone is actually there bidding live
The Billiken Pikachu had an RRP of $3,665 back in September last year - it’s odd that Heritage would publicise that fact. It’ll be interesting to see how the price has changed in only 8-9 months. The price of gold has gone up by 17% since then, so gold for gold it’d need to sell for around $4,300 to be profitable (assuming it’s the gold value which gave it its original RRP).
Is it not possible to register an account and/or bid in items on their site if you are not from the US? I keep getting errors when I register no matter if I pick PayPal, Google etc. as signup
@jonandek I’ve found your next purchase. (Normally this would be a friendly jest, but considering how hard you’ve gone on vintage I was thinking that one of these cool trophy cards or boxes would be a great addition to your amazing collection)
Oh definitely, I’m sure it had an inflated RRP to begin with. IIRC it took quite a while for the Billiken Pikachu to sell in the first place, and seeing as it’s appearing only 8-9 months after it was up for sale it’ll be interesting to see how much of a profit it makes (if it makes a profit at all). I guess the visibility of Heritage Auctions will probably work in its favour.
That is such a beautiful card and a unique piece. I wish I knew about it many years ago because I would of jumped on it! This is why I love what Japan has been doing. Keeping collector’s happy!
