The bird trio promo from hidden fates ETB sells for $200 in PSA 10. This year has a zard promo. Why does anyone buy anything but the ETB is the question.

And have the promo been confirmed? I have seen the images of the ETB but not a good picture of the promo, will it indeed be the same as the Japanese throphy?

I agree with @gottaketchumall. Whether we agree with the principle of paying 200$ for that card is irrelevant, the fact is it’s happening. Why anyone would pay 200$ for that ETB promo is easily explained: new unprecedented levels of demand in the market. We might be a bit cheeky and also throw in a sprinkling of… t0p st0nk inv3st0rz, new people in the hobby BUY BUY BUY WANT WANT WANT FLIP FLIP FLIP NEED MAH POKAYMANZ OMG BUY S3LL MAXHUSTLE GARY V LOGAN PAUL ERMGERD but let’s not get ahead of ourselves

I’ve never understood this either.

In the UK:

• ETBs are £54.95 and you get 10 packs per box, making each pack £5.50;
• V boxes are £16.95 and you get 4 packs per box, making each pack £4.24;
• Pin boxes are £12.95 and you get 3 packs per box, making each pack £4.32.

You’re 3 packs worse off buying the ETB.

To be fair before these ETB’s started selling out instantly they were around £43 each, some even cheaper depending on the websites discount codes at the time. The price increases after are just taking advantage of the hype.
ChaosCards price was £53.95 but it’s actually increased to £64.95 very recently (which is disgusting imo). TC still says £54.95 but are out of stock anyway.

You are right about current prices if the buyer was solely looking for the best pack value but i don’t think the people buying these ETB’s at raised prices are doing it solely for the packs at all.

Fingers crossed the 2 i ordered at £43 don’t get cancelled or i’ll be going to the local Smyth’s on release day and trying my luck to see if there are any left when i get there for retail.

One reason why the ETB’s are sold out but V boxes remain is people have been buying the ETB’s ever since the box artwork dropped with the news of a Charizard Promo being inside. Up until yesterday when the set list leaked there wasn’t an amazing reason to buy the V boxes as people were unsure if the set was going to be another Dragon Majesty, I would expect them to still sell out shortly now the set list has leaked though as like you said it’s the best value for pure packs now. If i had’nt already spent way too much on Pokemon this month i would probably order some of the V boxes now too

Ah yes, the old adage of why buy a sealed copy for under $2 that you could grade yourself when you can cut out the middle man and buy a PSA 10 copy for 100x that.

I don’t think that’s a good argument towards buying an ETB in the first place; I’m pretty sure with the £12 price difference it will be very possible to buy the ETB promo cards as new on eBay for less than that amount for a good couple of months after the release.

That card didn’t sell for under $2. If you click the 1 bid, it reveals that it was actually a best offer and was more likely sold at the going rate of around ~ $40-50 USD.

I’m glad they do. I’m much happier paying more for an allocated ETB to a store owner who makes a living off of cards, paying every cost associated with it etc, than some flea market flipper selling HF & CP ETBs, Sneakers and Video Games on eBay who bought out my local store at 7 am. I was surprised that they didn’t grab more of the easy profit with Hidden Fates.

The ETB pre-order is sold out on a Finnish website and so is every other Champions Path product that is releasing on September 25th so I had to do my pre-order from an UK based site to get an ETB but I actually don’t mind as it was cheaper there. The ETB costs 69,95 € here… That’s almost $83. So I’m kinda happy I took a look at international options.

How much did you pay and what site? Im guessing Finland is the same as Norway that you get import tax aswell? The few stores that have left turned up the price so they will not get my business.

I won’t get taxed because UK is still part of EU (and I’m really hoping for that EU trade deal so that doesn’t change).

I bought it from Chaos Cards, the box was £54.95 + shipping £12.95. When I turn that into euros it’s around 73 €. If I bought it from my own country, the ETB would have cost 69,95 € + 5,90 € shipping = 75,85 €. I actually saved couple euros for not buying locally even if the shipping cost isn’t cheap…

Yeah but as I mentioned above I’m sure you’ll be able to pick up that card individually raw for a good couple of months after release for under the £12 you’d be saving not buying an ETB. It still doesn’t make the ETB worth the money in my mind.

If you look through sold listings for the SM210 promo above you’ll find a load of copies selling for around £10 back in June/July - the fact that these are now selling raw for as much as £80 is very much a new phenomenon, and the Hidden Fates ETB had the same price gap in the UK compared to the tins and pin boxes.

did you call them, go into the store? online they’ve been unavailable for a while now.

I had to go into the store to pre-order. They had them available in store even though online it says sold out/unavailable (I think it has something to do with them giving it 2 different SKU numbers, or at least that’s what Ive heard)

Eb games/Zing (Australia’s gamestop) has reduced the minimum deposit for preorders from $30 to $10. Speculating here but they could of been given a larger amount that they thought.
